Only going for 10 days. A couple days in Tokyo, then staying in Osaka and wanting to check out Kyoto and Nara. Gotta give that JR pass a workout.

August is supposedly the hottest time, but I already live in Hell :idk:

If you haven't booked accommodation yet I can offer some recommendations for Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto. Osaka especially is awesome because you can generally get $20/night motel rooms within walking distance of all the 'shitty' (awesome) areas like shinsekai and nipponbashi.
Japan heat is similar to sydney heat but people generally still walk around in suits and jeans instead of singlets and thongs :idk:
Have an awesome trip :thumb:

Let me know how long and where you want to go in Nara. Spent a lot of time there, so I might have some tips/advice.

Was the question: more pie?

Because I want pie.

I'm going to get pie on my way to work.

Sounds cool :thumb:
Definitely check Kyoto, it's a short train ride from Osaka and it's a really beautiful city. Nara's a bit harder to reach from what I remember (though I went there from Kyoto both times) but it's worth visiting too, even if just for the main park with the deers all over the place.

Yeah, August is hot but if you're from Australia you should be ok :). It's usually hot and humid though, not dry.

If you want to check music gear while in Tokyo, I can give you pointers...

I mean, we both like pie. So yes there will be pie.

Fuck now I want pie, see what you do?

Thanks. Staying in Akihabara so it shouldn't be too hard to find the weird shit I'm looking for.

In that case, Ochanomizu (with tons of guitar shops) will be a short 5-10mn walk away from you. Definitely go there at some point. Not all the shops are interesting but there are a lot of them and some have really cool stuff.

Also, congratulations BitchPudding :thumb:

I remember the few seconds just before asking my (now) wife to marry me as some of the most intense of my life, not because of the answer (you basically know what it will be when you ask) but because of what it means for the future. And it was actually in Nara's main park with sakura and deers all around, to combine two sub-threads :).

Hey Oscillateur, how hard is it to get to Fukuoka train wise? One of my favorite bands might be playing at Kitakyushu FUSE in May so I might have to make the trek there for a night. My friend told me that absolutely no one speaks english once you get into Kitakyushu, so I'm sure it'll be a blast.

From Tokyo ? The furthest I've been in train is Osaka... Planes are probably faster, but I'm not sure about the price. This type of planes go from Haneda airport, which is much closer to the center than Narita, btw.

But by train... I don't know, I'd have to check. Will you have a pass and does it cover Shinkansen ? That would be a long trip, even in Shinkansen...

The shinkansen goes all the way to Hakata IIRC so you'd be fine getting there. I think once you get into the 2+hr ride time the price doesn't increase so much, like last time i went between shinagawa and kyoto it was like 15k yen and i think between kitakyushu and shinagawa is less than 25k even though it's a few hours trip, obv a lot of money but probably cheaper than a plane and shinkansen is wayyyy more comfortable than planes. if you were going return i'd say buy a JR pass for just that week even if you weren't planning on getting one, it'd more than pay itself off and you'd be able to stop off in osaka/kyoto/hiroshima etc. (seriously recommend stopping in osaka at least, i'm certain you would appreciate umeda mandarake and nipponbashi amongst other places).
