Yep, I signed off of FB this week and have been doing a pretty good job of not going back on. It's a pretty glorious feeling to rid yourself of that shit. That said, can't get rid of it completely, similarly too many people with whom it's my only real means of communication.

That shit is unbearable right now though.

Also been thinking of getting rid of my smartphone. That would/will be a tough one

I know you want to travel in the somewhat near future, so let me tell you that travelling overseas with a smartphone is about a billion times easier than doing it with a dumb phone (provided you want to use a phone, of course).

Oh yeah, I would certainly keep it for situations like that and just turn it on for the month or whatever.

That's the thing. I've been wanting to ditch it for all the time I waste on it, always pulling it out of my pocket at moments of boredom instead of, you know, actually interacting with people.

Once you realize what all you wouldn't be able to do anymore without one, though... shit. Can't check traffic at a moment's notice (pretty vital in Austin), can't order a ride. And of course tons more. Kinda nuts.

Possible, yes. Probable, not so much. At least for me, currently. I've been consciously trying to crack down on the times I pull out my phone and have the successfully stopped myself to a good degree, but my self discipline only goes so far.

For instance, if I didn't have the subconscious compulsion to pull out my phone when having breakfast, I wouldn't be responding to you right now. & to stop this shit from getting any worse, I see that putting some tougher limits on myself is the way to go.

I've also felt like ditching my smart phone a lot recently. Or at least reducing or getting rid of my data plan so I can only use it on wifi. Meh.
