cables - if they're short like 6", it's as cheap to buy prebuilt 'uns. it's just. when you get into longer and a 9" costs like $20 and you could make it for $4, and you need 4 of them, AND it would be awesome if they were the exact length you need.... that's when i hate prebuilt.

See, if it's an affected signal....OD, Fuzz, Synth....I don't care what happens to my signal. The whole idea of most of those pedals is to destroy the signal, anyways......but when I'm playing clean.....or just going into some delay or something......I mean, if I were into that Orange or Ampeg tone, where it's kinda veiled with a little big of murky color....again, it wouldn't bother me.....but I like my clean sound to be pristine and hifi. I've spend years and lots of money finding the gear with the least amount of murk and it would be a shame to waste that because I didn't spend a few extra bucks on the right cables.
On the other hand, I'm not sure I buy the whole high end being that much better than low end cables. I'm not an idiot. I don't think there's magic cables that add to your signal.....but I'm sure there's cables that take away from it.
Anyways, I found some used 8" Mogamis on the cheaps.
I also bought a beautiful vintage 1963 Mullard 12AT7 (Blackburn factory) to put in my Swell B-Peg. Hrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrng.

NEVER EVER USE ORANGE IN A SENTENCE LIKE THAT, SO DIFFERENT THAN AMPEG. IT HAS A WARM CLEAN TONE WITH SOME LIFE TO IT (unlike a glockenspiel). THE ORANGE IS ALSO BLESS ED WITH CREAMY OD.
No blanket over the speaker sound. The only coloring of the sound is the color of awesome.

If you're really concerned with murk, you'd set up some a bypass looper and/or make sure you have a buffered pedal in the signal. Length of cable is more of an enemy than type of cable. Eliminating length of cable with a looper would serve you much better, though I think you're a bit crazy.

by My name is Mudd
Molded - I've got a few Fender-branded 1' molded-plug patch cables that are actually rather nice...no noticeable hum/hiss/stuff, and the plugs, rather than being stupid-low profile like the pancake Mogami heads, stand off enough that they'll clear a lower-profile head if you need both in and out cable to run the in the same direction, like here -

That offset has come in handy a couple of times.
And while I agree that expensive cables aren't usually worth the price, I do think that the $2.99 wonders in the bin by the register@GC are to be avoided whenever possible...if it sells for that price, think how much it cost to manufacture and after a point you do get what you pay for.
My stuff is put together with an oddball assortment of Mogami, Hosa, homebrew/DIY and Di Marzio cables, most of which I scored from the TB accessories class-ads.

Should get Dan W. to build you a fancy looper with a master bypass so you can go as pure as can be for your clean tone.

And a buffer. A good buffer is worth 1 million for your signal.

Both of these +1. Also doesn't the Status have active pups? So already buffered? Cable capacitance really only has a noticeable effect on non-buffered signals, rolling off the highs a little. Length of cable has a bigger effect on capacitance than type, afaik.
