The bassist (who is the other guitarist's younger brother) of this band we're trying to start up, has been supposed to go down to the practice space and rent us a room for the past like 3 weeks. He lives closer than anyone else and he's the only one of us that doesn't work a full time job. The office is only open during the day on weekdays, and someone has to go there to fill out the paperwork and pay, so he's the only one of us that can do it.

He keeps saying he's going to then he doesn't. We tried to get him to go yesterday but he said he was too busy. Then I find out today that he didn't do anything yesterday. He just sat around the house.

In what way? Does he just define himself as something else? A worker bee with a hobby that is playing bass?

Personally music is my life. Even when I was working I never defined myself as a cook,...I'm a bassist; then a husband; then a worker bee.

It's a funny beast. Me personally as a bassist I let the real musicians (at least in my straightforward band) do the writing,...then I try to put a great grove underneath it all. Sometimes that means playing the root,...sometimes that means playing busy lines,...sometimes that means playing (or not playing) a lot of rests. I lend a little voice leading support if they need some direction. That's not as fulfilling as the improvisational stuff I do with Mecha Shiva but it's fun

This Samick P is strangely impressive after cleaning it up and giving it new strings. It only weighs 7 pounds which feels really weird to me and the neck is great...like a Jazz-style neck but maybe a little less rounded. The lower coil of the pickup is not even close to being aligned correctly and the adjustable parts of the bridge are rusty, but it might be worth fixing up.

Still considering slicing it and its guitar cousin up to make a doubleneck for use in the 2-man project with my friend, but I'm still undecided. Doublenecks...I don't know if takes a special person to make them not cheesy.
