Yup. That's my recollection too! I never ordered one because I didn't understand why I needed it. Clearly, I have seen the flaws in my previous thinking. I will say there are many other pedals that do this and I would hard pressed to try this at any price that wasn't under a hundred bucks.

there's a Singing Tree on Reverb that i'm lusting for mightily, but i just don't have the funds. i adore my Hi5, which is absolutely tits for a clean boost pedal.
