I really want and need to acquire some more commissions. I am trying to be less bad a self-promotion, though I'm doing it terribly slowly.

That's awesome dase. I'm largely self taught as well. I did actually take just general art classes in college and that is what really made me just stop cause my teacher was awful and I just didn't bother. I started up painting around 27 and I'll be 33 in a couple of weeks now. A large reason why i started doing it so far more was I got to show my work at two outdoor art/craft shows that happen here locally and that's where I end up selling most of my stuff nowadays. I started just now doing the facebook thing and that's started to generate much more commission work like I had back in the day.
And don't feel so bad gunslinger, I'm really in that same boat as well. All I pretty much do is just post up my work on google plus and facebook and then update my website semi-regularly. but once I do the first single post that's pretty much it. I don't keep reposting or resharing. Same with my music whenever I release a new album or whatever. It's usually oh here this is and that's about all I bother doing. :/
My commissions have largely funded my collection of gear. Which is why I hardly ever get rid of anything as in trying to trade up to get something else. I'm just able to purchase it outright and not have to sacrifice something else I wanted.

Thank you Sparrow, I really appreciate that!
Daze, that's kinda how I started doing some band commissions and then they started getting too picky and with that I just loose interest in doing commission work like that. Also partly when I get asked to do something for a band or something like that I don't bother taking any money till after the fact just because sometimes I don't finish or even start their work cause their idea kinda just restricts me too much or I don't get inspired to do so. I have a few I'm supposed to do and my response was pretty much I'll get to it when I get to it if I get to it.

It's cool how the wood grain emanates from the eye.

Thanks! I try to kinda work with the piece of wood instead of what I used to do which was use it exactly like some canvas:

hahah thanks. It's usually cause I try to build up for the 2 def art shows I do a year. Usually every year I sell out.. well in the last 2 years down to a 3rd of what I have. So I try to actively think about paintings as much as possible while I'm in the mood cause sometimes I'll drop off for months and not do any painting maybe doing inkwork or just strictly focusing on recording music. But when I am painting I usually have about 8 or so pieces that I get to the point where I'm just doing detail work and it's actually a bit easier for me to do the detail work while chilling at the computer listening to music and checking ebay or forums or whatever inbetween brush strokes. I almost have another larger one done but it's getting close to dinner so I'm opting to start some mixing on some albums.
