NO, it's his fault, some times you have to own a thing, and he owns fusion being a thing. They could have copied Zappa, he could have copied Zappa, but sadly, history is what it is.
Acid and fusion are both abominations and should never have seen the light of day.

i cannot deal with fusion at all. ironically, Zappa had the best take on it in a piece for Guitar Player, where he decried the fusioneers' tendency to emit "clouds and clouds of educated little gnat-notes." god, i miss that man...i so wish he was here to comment on the era of Trump. i do agree to some extent with the criticism, though...i can only really listen to the early records, the mostly-instrumental stuff (e.g. Chunga's Revenge), Roxy and Elsewhere, and The Yellow Shark. the "comedy" a la Fillmore or "Punky's Whips" is unbearable to me. Stephen Stills had an interesting early take on Frank, also in Guitar Player amusingly enough, where he said (paraphrased) "i've had the privilege to hear those tracks as instrumentals, and why he insists on ruining them with those vocals i'll never understand." that's my greatest objection to the "comedy"...e.g."Punky's Whips" is a beautiful piece and arrangement, but the vox totally destroys it.
i actually quite like some of Miles' post-comeback stuff. this here is my favorite:

Yes.
And this could be applied to a shit ton of music, that's why I appreciate instrumental stuff so much. Bad singing/bad lyrics can ruin a good song in 2 seconds.
