I change strings like once every 3 months or so depending on the strings. My Jackson bass has had DR's on it for over a year that still sound good, I shit you not. I played the fuck out of that bass too.

I put Circle Ks on my two main basses sometime around July, and they still sound like the day I put them on. I can usually hear when the zing starts to go, and that's when I swap them.

Yeah. Same exact thing. I look for that zing. If it doesn't have that pop, they're done. And I also have Circle Ks on right now and they've lasted a helluva long time.

Yeah, that's why I never change them; I hate that zing

I do have a .150 balanced set from Circle K and they are great, man. Definitely the best roundwounds I've played and as a pleasant surprise they were well worth the cost. If I ever use rounds again it's gotta be theirs.

I change my strings as often as my underwear.

Haki LOVES the zing, in his underpants.

also, giggle giggle -

the mouse over is them laying in bed, him smiling with a thought bubble that says, "GOD i'm clever!" and her looking disappointed.
i'd have to screen cap, crop, upload it to photobucket, then link it to get it here. i am too LAZY for all that.

This is my philosophy. With some basses and some tonal goals I can get next to the older the deader the better; James Jameson sentiment, but I feel like my bass sounds it's best and as such; the band sounds it's best when I've got strings with life on them.
I've got Circle K's on my bass as well. Can't say enough good things about CKS. Sourcing strings is no longer a nightmare for me (anyone who wants to put a heavier string gauge on a Warwick 5 or 6 string bass can identify with me). At some point I will likely buy a lifetime supply so I can change my strings out regularly.

MSUsousaphone wrote:Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck. How old are those strings? Hahaha. On a light playing season, I'll change mine every other month....once a month with heavy gigging. But yeah, before I had the Status, the Louisiana humidity would be hell on my basses. A graphite neck is a must for me, now.
Now that I think about it, they're pretty old. I've had a new set for a while but haven't gotten around to putting them on. I don't change my string as regularly as I should.
Thanks everyone! I use DR Lowriders but think I'm going to check out some Circle K's.
