Cello with some effects can be jaw-dropping. A local band when I was a teenager (that actually recorded a few albums and toured with people like The Ex I think) has a cellist that played with some big-ass overdrive and distortion sometimes and I can still remember how awesome he sounded...

Link? I'm truly intrigued!
In other news; going downtown to kill some time before meeting up with the misses. I think I'll go look at pedals. I have money to spend. Will I buy something I don't need? Most likely...
Edit: only bought longer cables because that's what I really needed. Boo, me. I blame it on the lame pedals that shops around here carry. It all feels so...bland.

Oh man. I mean, I don't think they did too good a job to show off how crazy you can get with it, but it did ignite some gas for sure.

It's the same way with every music store around here. My Craigslist sucks balls, too. I thought it was just a geographical problem, though...

Craigslist in LA really sucks too...every once in a while some good stuff comes through, but everything is usually above internet prices and/or garbage. They usually want new prices for way used stuff. Like a guy is selling his BYOC something for 150.
The cellow thing went alright. When I plugged in my guitar they all told me to turn down and asked if I could play something musical.. haha. Fuzzes sounded bad on it (which is because of the preamp on the cello I assume) but I thought the CT5 went really well (but he said it was too crazy...and he had to adjust his playing). He loved the MF104z, but turned down the mix, feedback, and delay time and was just using the drive. He really fell in love with the Beta Lead (sounded really good with the cello)...for someone that is really interested in effects, he didn't seem to like any. haha...rattle crow and cello is no good...the preamp messes with it.
Also he had a 5 string electric bodyless cello. Weird..I remember when he got it (supposedly custom made craziness for him). Two wings pop out for the legs. He is a bad ass cello player that wants to get into looping though the CT5 was a little weird to him (couldn't time it).
But I played my guitar for them after convincing them I suck...and they were mildly impressed I guess. The other guitar player was like "damn you're fast and percussive" then they all jumped on the percussive thing...said they never heard anyone play like that, so that kinda made my day. I guess they had never heard a ring modulator/big muff/envelope filter combo before.
Thinking about parting ways with my gk3 again...haha...would rather have a mu-tron phaser or mu-tron III or something.

I can feel your pain.
SD is kinda like the same, but not as worst as LA.
The only good thing I've found there was a big box DMM in Long Beach for $200.
I will be in LA next week for the SOTL show, I hope I can find some good shit.

If he was negative about it; that's a horrible mentality for a musician IMO. A piece of gear making you approach and explore music differently is just so inspiring. Well, at least it is to me. Anyways, sucks that he didn't like it too much. I bet it would have been fun if he went into it with a more open mind and perhaps had taken more time to adjust to it. His cello sounds bad ass though.

Caveman Vintage always seemed cool (with seemingly ok prices), but everytime I go to Chinatown I get really pissed off and just leave (no parking/a-hole on a motorcycle tried to hit me).
Downtown is so freaking yuppie and lame now. Pawn shops and cash bargaining will probably be your best bet though...but that takes too much time. Everything in LA is a premium too which sucks. I used to go back to my home town Bakersfield to find deals...because LA is taht bad sometimes. Some good shops down in the OC and places like Norwalk too. Got my beta lead this year in the OC for like 325 or something (but it was through eBay).
Good luck man!

I totally agree! That's what I was trying to show him and he was jamming really well with it...but you know, some people, right? haha. He walked out of Sigur Ros because dude held the bow incorrectly (I'm not a fan of them either, but that is such a lame reason). I think he was kind of overwhelmed...and just went back to comfort. His sister was really impressed by it but just wanted to talk about her new album. I think maybe I went too far the first time...He is going to come over to my house and check out some phasers and stuff...so we shall see...I'll record it then

...I guess I thought he would be more open minded because he was always chatting me up about making beats and techno by looping and shifting the cello...so who knows?

I dunno if I'd use the Ct5 as my introduction to looping, though..

It's all I have at the moment and I thought he would get a kick out of fun/different sounds (other stuff is out on loan). I wasn't really thinking about it as his main looper.
I thought it sounded bad ass with his plucked bass lines going in reverse in the back ground as he jammed over it. He just said it "locked" him into a speed and was make him play a certain way...which I think can work for you and make you try different things...but I don't think he is just comfortable playing yet. Everybody else liked it when I controled the loops and he played...said it sounded awesome.
I think he is just in the "ensemble" mindset still maybe.
