I did a month of math calculations based on Stringjoy's calculator. Their strings are decent enough and they let you custom order sets so it is worth a try. I ended up going to a different brand I liked better but the Stringjoys were great for experimenting and finding the right gauges for my weird tuning.

Well, I just use stringjoy to figure out which standard sets to buy  They're not the only company that does custom sets though

This is useful https://tension.stringjoy.com/ if you find a gauge on another guitar you have that you know feels good you can figure out which gauge will get you the tension you like for this guitar/tuning.
Totally disappeared over the weekend, i've just read this: thanks cbs, super useful link, instantly bookmarked.
Yeah 62s might be a little too heavy, tonight I'm gonna make a few tests and see what fits best.

Good point. I was ordering some odd things as a custom set, like doubles of certain gauges and several different gauges for the 6th string. Their price was fine enough for ordering two sets and figured I would at least know the tension of what I was buying. Since then I have chosen to also run 12-60 NYXL D'Addarios for a variant of Drop C, which is CGCGCC. Sounds great and I like those strings a lot. Used to be a big fan of EB Cobalts, fwiw, but the gauges I want to use aren't as available so I have moved on.

yeah sounds good. I would have ordered from stringjoy but EU so the shipping would be more than the strings! I also managed to find some sort of D'Addario 12-60 set for my drop C variant haha. Maybe the same ones....

Things took an unexpected turn, so i took a cheap set of Ernie Ball 12-56 and just tuned the guitar in C. Still have to set it up properly but i might have to change the 2 heavier strings as i feel they lack of tension. Also the 24p string is horrible, gonna swap it for a 24w.

lately i've been going back to a tuning i used in the 70s/80s for odder stuff. it's basically open G with the second string dropped to A, so DGDGAD. i find that it works for shoegaze power-chording with the ability to add the additional 9th when you pick the second string, and also gives you second-string hammer-ons for the minor *and* major thirds. it's been working well as a counter-voice to standard tuning in the key of G. of course, this can be adapted for other keys via a capo or by raising/lowering the tuning. it would probably have serious bite tuned up a full tone given the added string tension.

I've been into Jonny Marr's tuning (up a step), it really changes the sound of the guitar alot!
