^^^^ I hope that's the case!

Another question for 0 Coast users - how vital is midi to getting the full feature set out of it? Is Midi CC'ing a must? Or can I do absolutely everything it can do via CV

Lyra-8 landed. Some first impressions.

It is much bigger and heavier than I expected.

I don't understand how the signal path works yet.

I need to RTFM a few more times.

Basically all I want to do is run this thing through the Eventide Space and visit zones.

That might be my fault. It was so much smaller and lighter than I expected and I really went to town posting about it.

I don't recall seeing your posts about Lyra-8 small but who knows --- the subconscious.

The thing is mighty.

So...what do you guys think?
I told Raj this, "I like mine but I think it was expensive for what it does." That said, no plans on selling it. I probably should have done a direct bank deposit or waited for one from Russia to save money. I wanted it quickly and easily so that was part of the premium.
To be adamantly clear...I DO really really like it. But its niche sensibility and price point would have me hesitant to recommend one to 'everybody'.

+1, I definitely want to hear more of people's impressions with it. I have one pre-ordered, but I really wish it had more ways to interact with other gear.

I also ended up backing the Quadrantid Swarm, so I really doubt I'm going to have money to spend on it when my order comes up. Or I'll have to sell something first.

Though I've only had a few sessions with Lyra-8 but I will offer my thoughts.

It is both larger and heavier than I expected.

It's definitely always going to sound "like itself." In this way, it reminds me of some Ciat-Lonbarde gear (Tetrazzi, Tetrax, etc.). That's a positive comparison to me because I love the unique sound of Ciat stuff though it rarely finds its way into recordings I make.

Lyra-8 is basically a noise concert in a box. You can get many various Lyra-8 noises and dynamics from it. You can drone it out or make quick cuts. Yesterday, I used the HYPER LFO as a drum generator and made hyper fuck juju.

Aside from being itself and doing its thing, I'm not sure Lyra-8 has a whole lot of real life applications. By that I mean, providing some kind of consistent musical output for use in regular people music. It's woolly.

One great application is simply jamming on the thing, which is a pleasure. To me, Lyra-8 straddles the line between instrument and art work. It's a rare and beautiful thing and I'm glad I can mess about with one.

RECOMMENDED IF YOU LIKE: Chaos tones, noise music, improvisation, creating sounds you may never be able to recreate, hyper LFO cosmo fuck weirdness.

NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU LIKE: Regular things, making repeatable songs, knowing what comes next, DX7, subtractive synthesis, IDM, "going modular," eating three square meals per day, sleeping 8 hours per night, working a 9 to 5, going to brunch, etc.

I am happy to field any further questions.

Count me out then! I love brunch, it's basically breakfast in large quantities with alcohol. :snax:

I like brunch, too, but it's like the Minimoog of meals.

Not going to chime in too much yet since I just got it yesterday but just want to say you can definitely get some real pretty sounds out of it especially with the awesome dual delay built in and can play it to your tuned notes in a consistent way like in this clip:

haha damn now I need to buy one. maybe I'll get the kit and build it hey.

had a look at the guts, it looks complicated but I bet it could be done in a week of 1-2 hour sittings.
I'm all about that DIY style case like Look Mum No Computer (if you haven't seen his youtube channel DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR!! ) so a nice expensive screenprinted front panel doesn't matter so much to me.. ohhh no someone talk me out of it please!

I did not write that  .
Nobody is saying it 'doesn't sound great' it does! I was speaking purely on a 'capacity' for function perspective.
