Deafheaven and that song are both utterly unremarkable to me even if you don't post anymore. I do miss the endless bantz though.
Fifth? Fourth? WITTR show next month. Third this year. should be fun

The DEAFHEAVEN thing is an interesting case study. I really liked Sunbather when it came out...but at no point did I think it was Black Metal. Just because there is tremolo riffs, blast beats and screaming does not constitute music as "trying to be black metal". Those attributes and the etymology of those attributes can be found elsewhere (I honestly thought it was a really slow screamo meets some sort of 'gaze' album).
I kind of want to start applying a "tag" of "not-metal" to my own tunes because I like screaming, tremolo riffs and blast beats but lyrically and 'image' (maybe 'personally') I could not be further from metal. I really like what Goroth said in his podcast (oh fuck, this shit has gone meta!) about a "false sense of brotherhood" and other attributes associated with the 'image' of metal.
The Soft Pink Truth's one album does a better job at deconstructing this than I do.

Tee hee.
Also, was that the convo with Raptor, me and DD? That was a fun talk.

I absolutely loved that Soft Pink Truth album. I think it encapsulated something about how people relate to black metal. Like... you want to respect it and pay homage to it, because you unironically love it, but at the same time acknowledge what Norman Brannon of Texas is the Reason called "the high camp of black metal," that it is kindof ridiculous, too. Depending on what mood I'm in I lean one way or the other.

That is a truly awful band name though.

To be fair, Kerry McCoy says they don't consider themselves to be a black metal band.

Yes, which is why it is so interesting to me. People started hating the band for a label that was applied by listeners and subsequently cleared up by the band.
It's kind of like that moment when your friend gets drunk starts making fun of you, and then gets mad at you because they made fun of you.
Or my 2015 yearly review where I got a 4/5 for "flexibility" because I am "too flexible".

To be fair I've always hated Deafheaven because they fucking suck.

Which is fine, cause you don't hate them because you thought, that they thought, they were black metal.
You've always been a fair guy Strange!

I'm sure they decried the endless "this record is the best black metal album of the year" hype for Sunbather.
Oh, wait, no. No they definitely didn't do that. So instead, in effect, the average black metal fan had loads of people explaining to you why Macklemore made the best rap record of the year hands down and if you didn't agree you were just a close-minded purist.
