I decided to keep the tele. I will change the bridge for a Callaham and replace the bridge pickup for something hotter (so fatter).
Will get a new guitar later... Canadian money value suck too much at the moment.

Harmonic Design makes a tele bridge pickup that's not quite a P90. It's fat but chimey.

I was going to suggest one of those Ernie Ball MM90 guitars which are super fine. Almost too much sustain for me.

Thanks, I'll take a look at Harmonic Design.

I was thinking of trying a Lollar J-Street.

"This hotter version of our Special T series gives you a fat low end, more upper midrange, and a top end closer to P-90s and humbuckers. The J-Street pairs especially well with our Regal humbucker pickup or other hotter neck pickups. Features a flat-pole design with graded Alnico 5 magnets, wax potted coils, and vintage style cloth covered lead wire."

My neck pickup is a Regal. So this might be a fit.
