I agree that Mark is just a one-man operation and doing the best he can with what comes at him. He'a good dude. and willing to work with you. he said he'll test out a triangle spec muff to see how different his '71 voicing is. my whole board would be mark's pedals, if I had enough money and he made all of what I need.

If you don't want to deal direct, you can find used gear sometimes… somebody was just selling a Beast here for 150 dollars (Supercollider 'plus')
I think MEC put it best--he treats deadlines like an arbitrary thing and doesn't have a reputation for great communication, email or otherwise.
Now, it doesn't really matter-because the dude makes amazing fucking pedals and I've already got one so I don't need to deal with any of the front end stuff, but between that and the openings/closings/renamings... It definitely makes it harder to put down money for one of his boxes.

Mark is a totally solid dude and isn't flaky at all. While his communication is lacking, I'll always stand by the guy and his products.
I still remember when I was able to pre-order the black on black Iron Pig. It was a lengthy wait until any updates were posted, but I eventually talked to him and got the pedal. At least he's not Dr. Bass.

Couldn't have said it better.

You'd hesitate to buy one of his pedals because he renamed the company? You'd hesitate because he got out of the business for a while?
As far as his reputation for bad communication, some people expect their transaction with a small builder to be like buying from Musician's Friend. I'll go with my own experience instead (it was fine).

I've never had an issue either. Lengthy wait on pre-orders but I was eventually updated each time and the pedal arrived not too far from the predicted date. And the pedals sound so good I'll deal with the wait and minimal communication to obtain one.
That said, on my last order (SC '71) Mark sent an apology email for missing a deadline and kept me well updated after that. Also offered refunds to anyone sick of waiting. Seems like he's trying to improve communication now days from that last buying experience.

I've bought from a bunch of small builders. They're all rad. I've also been a vocal supporter and user of Earthbound's swag since '07-ish. But, in that time, I've seen him "go out of business"/Close up shop only to reopen months later at least four times. Or "discontinue" pedals I really like--that's how I ended up with a Fuzzrocious muff, because I loved my Supercollider so much I figured I better get something else to use live when he "closed" and "stopped making them" the first time. In 2009(?)
And I've seen the track record of him being a flake over two separate forums and seven(?) years now. I'm not saying people don't get their gear, but when you've essentially got to forget whatever order date is posted and just expect it to show up at some point sooner or later... that's not de rigueur for small builders, that's just shitty communication.
And, for the millionth time, I love my Supercollider, and I've been riding the Earthbound jock for ever. They're fucking awesome pedals. People shouldn't hesitate to buy one--they rule. But that doesn't mean you don't have to pay attention to the other shit too.

Who cares? As long as Mark is building pedals, I'll be happy.
I prefer the name Earthbound Audio, everybody does, why shouldn't Mark?

Any of you guys own both the smaller Super Collider & Super Collider '71 at the same time? Redundant?
As far as the name, I really don't care either way - but I did like the 125B enclosures.

Mark said they're essentially the same pedal Jean, I thin it'd be redundant, but haven't tried the 71.
