Made a mojo'd Fuzz Face today, sounds incredible after swapping transistors in and out for a while.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to add a battery snap to this one, that's what the standoffs are for. They make for a snug fit when the battery is installed.

This is the start of a LOT of throwback style pedals I'm going to be doing.

the company name is thermionic culture, on the panel you can see a rotary switch for triode, pentode. the black one is the cheap one for $1600, the red one is $4000. they are stereo. I'm mainly looking for something that would work with bass synth. I have a re-amp box already so guitar pedal sub-mini could work.



I just finished this NPN fuzz face using germanium 2N5133 hfe about 110, 120. the switch toggles a 1M>100pf feedback loop from the out before volume knob to input. middle is normal fuzz face. and the third position is 1N4148 back to back diodes to ground. and the third knob is a starve that also works great to bias the transistors as the correct bias is almost 2/3 CW. I had them biased good on the bench but I went from battery to adapter and lost the original transistors after I made the board.

I went with silicon on this one and ended up swapping in about 20 transistors before I found a pair that I liked. I don't remember the gain of them but it was higher than normal.

I kinda like it at Hfe 100. AB testing the 2N5088 with the 2N5133. germanium sounded way better. the silicone was lifeless. but that could also be cause of the funny resistor values I used. instead of 33k 100k, I used 47k 47k. I have the proper resistors but chose not to use them. also the 2N5088 are about Hfe 550

Well, the problem there was that you were using silicone. That won't work at all!

Sorry, I didn't see this. They're all on Page 165 [pdf] of the Mouser catalog.

Here are some specific item numbers for you, for 5MM LEDs:

Lens: 593-3000C T1 3/4 FRES LENS CLR - This is the clear low profile lens that I use most, figure D at the top right of the page I linked to. Available in Red, Amber, Yellow, Green, Blue, Clear, and White Frosted. They also have the tall ones (figure C), and square ones in short and tall (left side, figures B and C).

Spacer: 593-SPC125 T1 3/4 LED SPACER - Use this if the panel is less than 0.188"/4.75mm thick. It slides over the clip on the inside of the pedal, and prevents the lens from popping up through the top of the panel.

Retaining Ring - 593-RNG268 RETAINING RING - These are optional. They clip on after you put the LED in the holder, and kind of squeeze the plastic teeth that hold the LED. Once on, the LED is impossible to remove. If you pry the retaining ring off, though (very easy), the LED will pop right out.

Both the spacer and the retaining ring could easily be DIYed using 1/4" inner diameter rubber hose for the retaining ring, and 1/4" inner diameter plastic hose for the spacer.

Still sticking to building more than 1 circuit at a time to fund the next build. That ones mine and I really don't see me offing it, really cool little circuit to add sheen or muscle to your sound. It works great as a boost too.

Can you elaborate a littel more on what this pedal is please.
