And now it's dragging Sears down into the gates of hell with it. Nothing of value was lost, at least as long as it takes those shitty Bob Vila commercials with it.

Sears > Home Depot and Lowe's for buying tools, lawn care equipment, and work boots/clothing.

Ace Hardware and Taylor's Do-It-Center are the shit when it comes to obscure little things though. And weird soda.

GC actually has a lot of stupid good prices for used bass gear. I don't know if I've just gotten lucky but I could definitely flip some kit for a good profit thanks to them.

Way back, Sears stopped using US factories to make tools and sold the Craftsman name to Black & Decker, who now sells the line through Lowe's.
Also way back, Sears dropped their deals with the Kenmore appliance factories and farmed all the designs out to the other big brand lines, most of which are made overseas. The only big appliances still made on the continent are GE and Maytag. GE makes a few things with the Kenmore brand plate, but Maytag does not.
I loved Sears for decades, but after the early 2000's they began a slow implosion and never recovered. I say this with a twinge of nervousness because our entire kitchen is outfitted in Kenmore Elite appliances. Sears says they'll honor all warranties on Kenmore stuff, but I figured out later that the Kenmore line is just as fault-prone as any mid-priced badge.
My mom bought a Maytag gas dryer from Sears in 1973 and it was still working when she finally replaced it in 2008.

The Sears near me only has about 1/3 of the ceiling lights on inside it because 66% of it is empty. It's the most depressing looking store, I'm amazed it's still open.
I got a hatchet from Home Depot for 8 dollars that is the shit. I have an old supposedly good Estwing that is a POS compared to the smashing power of the Home Depot one.

I had one of those stacked leather handle Estwings when I was a kid. No idea what ever came of it!

If you're someplace that still has a K-Mart, maybe you died in that plane crash with them and just don't realize it yet. In Arizona, K-Mart is as dead as Bob Crane.
When I was in there last week, they were selling "restaurant equipment" from their in-store Little Caesars that closed down 2 years ago. But otherwise our location actually receives a lot of foot traffic. It serves a niche in our community for people who don't want to drive the extra 5 miles to Target. It's actually half an hour to the nearest Wal-Mart from my town.
