Total ghost in the machine moment.

I was sitting on the couch thinking about whatever you think about on a gray winter day when I started hearing a noise. It sounded like gun shots spaced far apart, but it seemed to be getting louder and closer to me until it was no doubt coming from my apartment.

I wandered over to my stereo ans found it was still on. The sound came again suddenly, louder than before, and undeniably from the speakers. I looked down at my set up on the floor: Drone Commander -> el Capistan, DD7, Cathedral. None of these seemes to be on so I wasnt sure where it was coming from, but as the sound got louder as did the splash of spring reverb.

Sure enough the el Capistan was in sound on sound mode and the reverb was cranked, as were the repeats. I hypothesize that some sort of electrical discharge in my building triggered a small blip that was caught by the always armed recording head and regenerated into what I was hearing.

I smirked at this little wonder and hit the record button on the DD7, heard the little blip again, then went I to over dub mode so the blip could start to layer.

& by the strangest coincidence, the record window I had punched was timed for almost perfectly timed quarter notes as the loop built up. The twenty second interval of the original blip was now hitting every few seconds. So naturally the next step was to double the speed of the original loop to get some accents. Worked like a charm.

Stange coincidences on a saturday afternoon.

If you wrote gorgeous music but used the ugliest sputtery nasty fuzz around, would it still be pretty? And I don't mean just for ILFers.

I saw a patient today with nerve damage in his lower leg so he couldn't move his ankle

He told me he bought a tazer and shocked his foot to get it to move and showed me the burns from it

Today, I had to tell an adult that shocking yourself with a tazer, no matter the reason, is a really bad idea.

"The idea of basic income has been appearing among the tech-bro elite a lot lately.

Mega-investor and Netscape creator Marc Andreessen recently told New York magazine that he considers it "a very interesting idea," and Sam Altman of the boutique incubator Y Combinator calls its implementation an "obvious conclusion."

Albert Wenger, a New York–based venture capitalist at Union Square Ventures, has been blogging about basic income since 2013. He's worried about the clever apps his company is funding, which do things like teach languages and hail cars, displacing jobs with every download.

Supporters list the possible results: It can end poverty and inequality with hardly any bureaucracy. With more money and less work to do, we might even spew less climate-disrupting carbon."

Shouldn't the tech elite have been on that for ages?

It's been pretty prevalent in sci/spec-fi since like the 70s.

ikr
I guess the mindset that "utopia is impossible" was too strong at that time. Now the technology and knowledge is here and we just need some restructuring and paradigm shifts. The whole thing could pretty much explode this year. Hope it does :D
