Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Yeah the "what does it do I can't do elsewhere" question is key! For me it's the process and discovery element, plus weird sampling. Pretty wanky - basically it's just fun and for now at least that's justification for it.
Just committed a minor pedge violation and ordered a Mosaic 1u reverb to replace my Intellijel Digiverb. The belton sound is cool but it'll be fun to have something with some CV capability and a bit more range.

I also might just need to limit myself here by selling a few modules. I still have a few modules I think are really good but I maybe know 20% of them, like the MoE, Nerdseq, Reflex Liveloop... I need to learn them properly

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Yes exactly! I spent a bit of time with nerdseq alone, taking drum break samples and fucking it up with the fx, understanding how to do the fm synthesis on it... Lot of fun, especially de drum break partvidret wrote: reflex and nerdseq alone are like two months of non-stop crazy![]()
i'm busy with school so i'm not playing a lot right now, but when i do sit with it the sounds are crazy good.
i think the thing that breaks me at times is when i intend to do so much but i achieve so little, due to time constraints or lack of energy, and the pressure to do better or more becomes greater and it becomes less fun.
no pressure==just fun

Also changed the display a bit. Got tired of red and green so I went with everything mostly shades of black/grey/white and a nice almost pastel pink for the cursor, tick points and scroll bar

Sometimes I feel like I’ve done so little just because I get lost in a patch or trying to be a perfectionist about getting the sound just right. And the. When it’s show time or recording time, it’s really hard to get back to the exact spot. I can always get close…

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Yeah going for a nerdseq and a mob of emus as a beginer probably did not help
My phone camera really ain't the best so colours are a bit hard to catch but it really is mostly like the first pic (not as blue and flashy as the second pic) but with the cursor more pink like on the second one.
Nothing crazy but I find it more smooth than the green/red original UI

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Nice! I see you went with the old school alarm clock font
I dig it, I went for easiest to read possible.
So here is a little update. I am having fun taking a little pod with only a few modules in it so I fully concentrate on them and can easily bring it to the room with the most natural light in the house at the moment (studio space is in the basement). Also I think I want some other super powerful modules to make cool stuff with less. Kind of like the nerdseq can do so much when you really focus on it.
Also I love their aesthetic and they aren't physically deep so...
I think I want some more Rossum Modules! I was thinking control forge, assimil8or and a filter (either linnaeus or Morpheus). I already have the MoE. Any thoughts on these? Linnaeus or Morpheus? Tempted to get the Morpheus but linnaeus looks great too and a tiny bit cheaper.
I know they are really deep and have a steep learning curve for the most part but I want to try them. Imagine a Nerdseq+ MoE + Assimilator + Control Forge setup l!
You can basically do anything with that:
Add a few attenuators, vca and you are good to go!
Btw I also have another filter, some attenuators and vca, Ochd, select 2, General CV, Octocontroller, rings... Selling some other stuff to finance the potential rossums

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
lol. not talking the shits, because it's sort of how i was aiming too, but that's the frustrating thing about euro for me. what you're talking about is building... a solid deep modern synth. which, YES. but i get so frustrated with having to record everything RIGHT NOW because one bump of a knob or switch of a cable and who knows what you'll get. also the best part of euro/modular?
Morpheus can bite my pink ass. it's such a good idea, but it distorts in an ugly UGLY digital way so often it's just horrible to use. Linneus is amazeballs. i like the IDEA of Rossum a lot, but again it gets into the complexity that i think needs an all in one/complete system save path or it's useless. my two cents and all.
sold off a bunch of stuff, almost my whole rack so far, zero regretti. keeping about a skiff of effects and interface stuff, set aside a Varigate and some drum modules just in case i want to do a mini euro drum machine again.
want to focus on what i have and get some synths more hands on grabbable where i had the euro, don't need anything else.
so.
of course.
i have a Lyra 8 and a LSR-02 on the way.
this made me realize i was being an IDIOT in how i was trying to use the Lyra when i had one before -

Haha yeah best/worst for sure! I've sometimes had patches where I turned it off, touched nothing, turned it on and it's not working rightbehndy wrote:lol. not talking the shits, because it's sort of how i was aiming too, but that's the frustrating thing about euro for me. what you're talking about is building... a solid deep modern synth. which, YES. but i get so frustrated with having to record everything RIGHT NOW because one bump of a knob or switch of a cable and who knows what you'll get. also the best part of euro/modular?

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Thanks for the input! I really like the idea of the morhpeus being more like a tone/vibe shaper than traditional filter and all but I'll keep that in mind (also the sequencing looks really fun, with a control forge? Omg). Both look really fun. Decisions...behndy wrote: Morpheus can bite my pink ass. it's such a good idea, but it distorts in an ugly UGLY digital way so often it's just horrible to use. Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I feel like I really do understand a good part of modular I just struggle to find much inspiration when I've go to patch alot of things before I can think about the music. I comparison with the virus and mpc I basically only think about the music.
I feel these super deep modules could help in the sense that I might not do the same exact basic patch 15 times in a row but bring new things to the table and instead of having a bunch of one function modules that I only use one way I will have fun exploring everything it can do and maybe use a very specific thing in a mostly MPC track. For example, I mostly used my mob of emus has 6 oscillator but yesterday I figured I can use it as a sample and hold going into a quantizer (so random notes in a scale, like marbles for example), going into an oscillator and then out to filters and stuff. Also I can self patch an lfo to something like the amplitude or waveshape. I could also use it as a drum sequencer with variations. Drums could come from general cv, nerdseq or assimilator if I get one. But each of these can also do alot more than that. So yeah I like that idea.
Anyway I am just rambling here trying to justify this move but yeah I want to try these and if I hate them I'll simply resell them at almost no loss. That is if I can find them.
But I appreciate the headsup!

right? never want to lose that THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED option, but... i dunno. just felt silly with like 8 g's of euro just sitting there.coldbrightsunlight wrote:Haha yeah best/worst for sure! Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
viddy - for sure! that's a goooood way to try to balance inspiration/MADNESS. i tried going to what i thought was the purest most concentrated version of that, building an almost all Erica System where the Drum Seq had 5 modules connected in the back, the Black Seq had a main VCO in the Graphic VCO that also saved states, both sequencers booted up in last state. super fun, but. just a more expensive stripped down drum machine and tiny synth. it's not euro's fault, i just don't use whst it does well enough right now to make it worth it.
it's not you bebe, it's ME.
now. my new, stupid, no one cares you spoiled little BABY, dilemma is - PC has 5 colors of Lyra in stock. i'm getting bored of all black, the white looks... okay? i like orange but HATE Safety Industrial Orange. if you tell me pink i have ordered before the n starts. but it's a baby salmon looking pink that... i dunno. meh? i'm digging the mint, think that will look nifty against the Perkons light light LIGHT blue and the Super 6 desktop grey tinged white?

but then i look again and i kinda like the pink? i think it's the knobs. i think the green has that Russian Military Aesthetic that works with those knobs, the silver knobs don't look great against the pink.
i am TORN.
shit. and now the more i look i DO like the pink.
WHAT DO.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I really, really want to be able to say, "sell the black one to me and buy the pink one", because I really miss the Lyra, but I am not in a position where I can buy anything at the moment.
So I guess I will respond with the more responsible, "keep the black one you already have or if you really want to swap colours; get the pink"

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I personally would go black, orange or white but between these two colors I'd probably go green?
