Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Scored a very well priced Erica Polivoks VCF at last!
I can't wait to run my eMu XL-1 Xtreme Lead-1 through it to create bL00R box tonalities hitherto unheard by man or beast.

It's the little sibling of the Wing Pinger, which I think is only 1/8:Deltaphoenix wrote:NICE! Is it I/8 or bananas?MrNovember wrote:Just ordered a Meng Qi Wingie in his scratch and dent sale. Literally didn't know it existed before now, but the price was right

Haha, I kind of figured that's how you interpreted it
The Wing Pinger does look really cool though. I'm working some of those ideas into the little mini eurorack I am putting together, which I am planning on building around two Mutable Instruments Ripples, Beads, a Clank Chaos, and probably a Make Noise Maths. The idea was to ping and sequence the two MI Ripples with the Chaos and Maths and process the results with Beads.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
murrrrrrrr. i haven't touched my modular loots in awhile. not thinking about ditching stuff, because i do like the racks i have and i am a fickle, FICKLE beast.
but way more enjoying Live with a few main soft synths, a few hardware boxes, some controllers.
it's the repeatability and being able to quickly and easily go back to an idea that appeals.
and, most software and hardware has SOME facet of modular Patch Anything To ANYTHING in it, if not going butts deep hard in like with Phase Plant.
my Roli Lumis Plus Extras got delayed a few weeks. booooooo. looking forward to playing with MPE integrated environment stuff.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I go in cycles: strings get interesting and then I go back to patch cables and midi cables. I don't need to use everything I own, all of the time but I also don't want stuff sitting forever unused. I need to update my version of Ableton as I have stayed put on 9 suite. I did just pick up a really cool book off of Amazon called The Secrets of Dance Music Production from Attack Magazine.
It is pretty darn new, it covers so many things. The concepts are applicable to whatever tools one uses but it does use Ableton as the example for pictures for a lot of stuff. I feel like I have busted my ass for years to pick up every tidbit about synthesis, sound design, routing, mixing, etc., etc., etc. I have read some books, have Google Docs put together, etc. but this is a very thorough book that is pretty accessible that has a ton of good info/concepts despite the fact that I am not making Dance music which are applicable to the whole process and make good sense for the type of gear I (we) use.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Seems like a fun concept/little system. Have you ever checked out a BugBrand Chirper - seems to be in the same pinging filters vein. That thing got me going on a mission for BugBrand even though I didn't keep the Chirper.MrNovember wrote:Haha, I kind of figured that's how you interpreted it

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
The Bugbrand Chirper does look pretty cool, but that would bring another whole jack type into my setup, which would probably send me down a crazy rabbit hole of banana gear. That would be dangerous as I have always wanted to try some Ciat Lonbarde gear

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
also - played with VCV Rack a bit. haaaaaated it. great idea, but using it was such a slog. i'm a persickety delicate little princess though.
but Phase Plant? after about an hour in last night, LOVE. it's everything i love about using modular but with... save spots. super in depth, does audio rate modulaiton, very easy to patch from any modulation source to anything, DOES AUDIO RATE MODULATION, fun as butts to use, sounds GOOD.
loooooving it.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
VCV Rack and some other attempts at virtual modular like iPad apps never have done it for me. I like soft synths for polysynths mostly but I am open to checking out Phase Plant if you're digging.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
they haveba free trial!
shit. they have a $10 a month subscription service that gives you EVERYTHING Kilohearts makes. and once every 12 months gives you a hundy dollar credit toward their store. so good.
but yeah. they call it a semi modular environment, i guess because of the fixed Generator, Modulator and Effects sections, but it feels open as butts.
