They might even view it as negative....and 2) They'll take your comment as almost an insult. As if you're saying "well you're not able to discern good playing from bad playing".

Don't underrate making twee post-concert conversations something of a routine. The punters don't know you say the same stuff to everyone, and if you're kinda smooth with your lines I think they just feel like "wow, I had a great conversation with that guy, what a cool band" = win for everyone.

Either their worst critics, or they consider themselves to do no wrong. I've seen a lot more arrogance than modesty in many musicians.
