Not particularly but "neck work" sounds like warpage. That or the truss rod is fucked. I'd email him to find out before I made the trip to look, if it is fubar'd you could offer him 10-20 bucks to take it off his hands. Then you can decide to have fun demolishing it or playing luthier.
