^I'll be curious to hear the Ghost on retro cheese drum machines & pianos.
I'm not a fan of the 5-month waiting period. That's a lot of time for other stuff to hit the market.

I'm looking forward to hearing these Fundamental pedals in-person. The most resonant sounds on this phaser are quite close to the flanger territory I like.

Oh man, too much gas lately. I’ve been eyeing the Ghost eurorack module, but it could be even better for me in pedal format!le lambin wrote:https://www.gearnews.com/endorphines-does-pedals/
This is genuinely exciting- Endorphines dabbling in the pedal world. I don’t get the hype with Andrew huang or why he’s involved but that compressor looks pretty awesome in a pedal format. Also looks like it will be big moneys.

The Binson Echorec from T. Rex has resurfaced at NAMM. These would be the first wire delays made in bulk in about 50 years.

(*edit*)
After 6+ years with few updates (ownership change, then back to the previous T. Rex team), it looks like this is almost available. Sweetwater has a pre-order set at $2,100. I wonder what these would have been pre-inflation? I think they had been targeting $1,000-$1,200. It doesn't appear that the enclosure has changed at all. You can't see the back panel, so I'm not sure if there's an external option for bypassing it and keeping it on the desktop.

I’m very confused why they would choose to release a new echorec at that price? There is currently an unsold echorec on reverb that has a lower price? I get that it’s a complicated piece of equipment, so, it makes sense that this price could be reasonable given the cost of making it. Given that high cost of production, it seems like a poor business decision to make this if it can’t compete price-wise with pre-existing used units?

At $2K, I'd say most of these are going to advanced hobbyists and studio owners. Those Echo Fix units with digital chorus are selling for $3K, and they seem to be doing fairly well. (a serviced Space Echo 101 can be had for half that) People could also buy Copicats and other tape delays for $450-550. It's kind of like car shopping---you could buy a 70s Ford and maintain it yourself, or you could buy a 2000s Toyota and hardly ever need to visit a mechanic.01010111 wrote:I’m very confused why they would choose to release a new echorec at that price? If you've got money to spend, a '23 model will offer far less noise and less maintenance. Original Echorecs are 50 year old units at this point, and I'm not aware of anyone offering modern replacement parts. If you have to change anything, you'll need to source vintage NOS spare parts.
One of the selling points of the Replicator was a unit that didn't need much maintenance and could easily be cleaned and maintained by someone with no knowledge of tape machines. With this new Binson-branded project, you're getting custom-fabricated parts that should run more smoothly and be far more reliable than equipment that's half of a century old.
Also, no one's made a wire delay in 50 years, so there's a bit of a novelty factor here. I don't see anyone else spending the next 5+ years developing their own unit and undercutting T. Rex. So they've got a bit of a monopoly on a niche product.
Is $2K even that much money now, when it comes to gear? Look at all the people on IG/forums/classifieds with jumbo boards---Strymon/Meris/Chase Bliss/Eventide. You've got countless people buying $5K synths, boards loaded with $500 pedals, and $4K computers. I have no idea if T. Rex can sustain production for 5+ years, but I don't think they'll have trouble finding initial buyers, given how much inflated gear is already out there. We're living in a post-Klon world after all.

Agreed - the comparison case seems closer to a modern tube amp than an effect pedal - you can make more or less the same arguments for and against buying 'em, but for a certain use case it makes a lot more sense than going vintage.

I was wondering when TWA was going to release that- I remember seeing it on the Godlyke page maybe 2 years ago? Brassmaster is a cool circuit- I’m glad they’re doing something different with it instead of releasing a “faithful” reproduction.

Re: The All Nude New Gear Announcements 2023'd
I just checked my old newsletters, and I've got an email dated Feb 8th, 2018 mentioning this pedal. I had forgotten all about it. A pre-order is open, but I'd have to wait until it hit the holiday/used market. My only TWA purchase has been the Dynamorph, which sounds quite nice on synths---gritty and fairly aggressive.le lambin wrote:I was wondering when TWA was going to release that- I remember seeing it on the Godlyke page maybe 2 years ago? Cool! We need more digital phasers in the multiverse. I’ve been meaning to check out that new version of the syntax error too- really, I just need to get back into Alexander stuff in general. I think the last pedal I bought from them was the OG Radical delay.echorec wrote:Psst...it's a secret...
