Ottobit with less annoying interface and a mix/vol control would be great. Dunno if CBA layout would really be able to improve ut, though.

Isn’t that what everybody loves? Unlabelled, secret secondary functions and button combos are the secret to a good ui

Remembering all of the secondary (ALT) functions on each knob turned me off from Meris before. It was just too much to remember - and while I enjoyed the sounds each one made, I only retained the Ottobit and Enzo. Ultimately, I think I didn't give them enough time because they really did sound great.

It's funny because the CBA stuff is like crack to me. Even if I don't understand every function or use a ton of the dip switches, I really enjoy what they make despite the complexity.

Strymon has been doing alt function in the same format for a decade but I don't see nearly as many people complain about those. And some of the complaints come from people who regularly use other gear like modular with completely convoluted interfaces. I never found Meris or Strymon to be terribly annoying and I am usually one to take issue with a shit user interface. To each their own, I guess. Just funny to me.

I only have a couple of CBA pedals, but the DIP switches do basically the same thing on both of them so I imagine that's the case across the entire product line? If you spend a minute and RTFM or whatever and sort it out on one pedal then it isn't a learning curve on the next one. With the meris stuff, AFAIK an alt function on the Enzo isn't the same alt function on a Merc7. So figuring one out doesn't really help you with any of their other pedals aside from knowing that there's a lot of unlabeled functions packed in.

Also, if meris just *labeled* the alt functions I think people would stop complaining.

Yeah I dig the dips on my WV MkII, no complaints about user-friendliness of CBA pedals overall. I was just envisioning a worst-case scenario of something with extra controls á la Blooper plus those hidden functions. I've only messed with a friend's Enzo a little bit and it just wasn't my cup of tea. Maybe with a preset switch.

But if they end up collaborating I'm sure they'll reign it in somewhat.

Very cool but VERY pricey.

How is it much different than Fractal or Line 6 Helix stuff. I really don't know too much about those either. So ELI5.
Also reminds me of the Headrush, and that seemed to offer vast promises and way under delivered.

To me, it's more about having no indicator as to where they're set. It makes it really difficult to mentally map how/what I need to adjust to get what I want, especially small adjustments. By the time I've tweaked a few primary knobs, I've kinda lost where I am with the secondaries, usually. In the case of the Ottobit, not knowing where I was at with the sequencer at any given moment and how "deep" each step was relative to the others made it a pain to get to grips with.

In general I don't get why companies don't do this. The Roland GAIA has so many extra functions per knob when you hit shift and it's not labeled and barely in the manual.

Alexander Pedals, if you're reading this, this does not apply to you. You nailed it with proper labeling of alt functions. Gold Standard.

NeuralDSP is marketed so heavily toward prog-metal wankery it's hard to guess how useful their products might be for anything else.

Strymon's alt functions are similar to internal trimpots on some pedals where they are set and forget. If you don't use them, you're not missing out on super important stuff. Meris's alt functions are integral to how the pedal works and not having them labeled is a huge problem when you're trying to get stuff done. My main issue with Meris is dividing a hidden alt function knob into 24 segments and its just a game of turn and guess if you're where you want to be.
