There's a Flanger on the Reverb card for the cooperFX Arcades that is pretty wet and gooey. I'm digging it.

As good a place as any to ask: what's a good simple flanger for a noob who doesn't know a thing about flangers? Like what I'm hearing in demos of the original non-deluxe Electric Mistress, classic warm chewy flange that's not overly filterted/digital sounding. Can't afford a high end boutique pedlol. Been using my buddy's BF-2 for the last couple years. Awesome in its own right, but it lives in the fx loop of my rubberneck. On its own it's hard to dial in right. Not that I'm after "subtle", but the Boss gets kinda nasty/metallic/overthethop/shrill, especially with dirt.

Is that just typical Flanger behaviour, is it as good as gets? :idk:

That mooer electric mistress everybody raves about being legit. I too have kinda gotten the deal with the Mistress after listening to a shitton of early Keith Levine stuff. The nasty metallic thing has probably got to do with too long a delay time with too much regeneration. It sounds more like a vari-sped bathtub than swooshy flangy, right? I personally love that sound more than flangy flange cause it sounds like all 80s weirdos that got their hands on a h949.

Can't you just go on reverb and sort flangers by 80s? That is where the alleged "good ones" come from with the sexy chips and whatnot. I really can't help you much more than that cause well... I hate flangers

Really helpful actually!

- sort flangers by 80s on reverb: why didn't I think of that?? A whole bunch of nice ones popped up, never even heard of most of them.
- too long a delay time, too much regeneration: I've had the BF-2 for this long, and just now I'm learning to dial it in right. Major case of user error
- Mooer: sounds close enough to the real deal for me, dirt cheap as well.

I'm more into chorus though, and to a lesser extend into phasers. The Mooer 'ensemble king' doesn't sound half bad in the demos, I'll probably start there before worrying about flangers :)

The Mooer mistressy one is indeed pretty legit. I got annoyed by how tiny it is but it sounds cool af.

IIRC Chank is an expert on 80s flangers.

I've always wanted a Mistress, I hear there's something special about its LFO

FTFY

I think Dandolin has surpassed my knowledge on the subject though. :!!!: :snax:

I done did some research. There's good reason why Chank is partial to the 4-knob variety - the magic is in the manual (knob, that is) :!!!:

A crucial distinction, and a crucial knob. I've seen some three-knobbers that have a regen/feedback knob and I like those too, but if I had to choose between them, I'd pick a manual/delay time instead.

I think most 3-knobbers have the feedback/regen knob, but why choose either/or? Get a four-knob and you'll have both! :poke:

hyper-triangular - more slope for the...lope? pope?

lfo shape, delay time/ratio, headroom/noise/companding, available feedback range...all things inside the box that also play some part in the character of the flanger, but imo delay time/range is at the front of that line....

Bumpin' this because I snagged a Super Neo-Matic yesterday. Can confirm it does the flange. Kind of finicky to tweak compared to a normal flanger, but there's butt-loads of flange-ey sounds in there that I've never been able to coax from other flanger pedals. Comb filtering is great too... Solid 9/10 (-1 for not being purple)
