Thanks for sharing! Finally got decent enough Internet to watch. Makes me glad I didn't sell my 707 when I was just about to last month, to help fund my recent eventide eclipse purchase.

Been following this thread quietly for a while now - not knowledgeable about samplers at all but do.... people use them with bass and or guitar for noisy weird shit? I’m debating re-buying a looper after I sold my Flashback x4 and.... maybe want something more versatile? I really liked the Memory Man with Hazarai because you could adjust the speed of the loop (not just 1/2 speed) but no looper is totally meeting my needs. I feel like maybe I’ll just buy a DL4 but I hear so many horror stories....

I get that it’s probably pretty hard to use a sampler like a conventional looper because there’s no foot switches.... but..... does anyone in this thread have any ideas?

I don't really know how you'd go about using it as a normal looper, but you can definitely record guitar into a sampler to mangle:

I am watching that first video now - and basically this confirms my suspicions that I need something with foot switches. Maybe I’m thinking of like a red panda tensor to slow shit out? I don’t know. I’m on a journey? I’m Ron Burgundy?

I use samples mostly divorced from live guitar playing. I find it more interesting working with different/found samples although I do directly sample guitars sometimes. It's very fun using signals from the guitar to control samples in eurorack but this is quite a way away from deliberate controls like footswitches. I've had a couple of loopers and that can be fun but it's not particularly inspiring to me although I hear other people do amazing things with them

Catching myself looking at 10 string guitars and 7-8 string basses... I need and old Priest and a young Priest... and the Priest from the Jean-Claude van Damme vehicle DEATH WARRANT.

I've been doing this lately too, but I 100% do not have the skill to use either properly :idk:

We can brainstorm but two different approaches to whatever you want to do.
1. ibarakishi uses a Ditto X2 and EHX720 as his main loopers. He gets A LOT out of just those. At one point whoismarykelly had a few EHX720s too (going off your old board pics). That guy knows his loopers so that says something imo (not sure what he uses now). But, you can score that set up for very cheap.
2. Samplers - If I had a smidgen more space... I would cop one of those roland Midi foot pedals and trigger stuff from a sampler in real time. You also have the Keith Mcmillen 12 step (incidentally whoismarykelly as has that   but for his synth). I haven't thought through the 'real time thing' though. As coldbrightsunlight said, it's divorced from live playing.

Maybe I'm just not on my game today and this exists but, surely there must be a device that has the UI of a sampler, can have foot things trigger 'Rec' (you assign the pad with you fingers) and then use those same foot pedals to trigger other samples? I have a post from a few years ago about wanting (this never happened) to use a DDR mat as a controller.

No, you'll be fine. I know you didn't ask but if I see things cheap, I'll send things your way (actually, I won't... you get import taxes for stuff... sorry).

I don't know. I've said this before and Rustywire agreed with me. "I" think of extended range instruments more as "tools" and less as something that has prerequisites. I have a 9-String... I bought it cause at the time, I wanted to play SISSY SPACEK inspired noisecore, and then at the drop of a hat play something like THE CARS "Shake It Up" and do it all on the same instrument.

Yeah that makes sense and I'm sure I'd find a use for one. I've honestly just been watching too many Rob Scallon and KMAC videos lately. But I also like the idea of tuning a 10 string in a weird way to have some standard tuning and some additional drone strings to just mess with on top of everything else.

Yeah that thing looks really fun! Everything I've seen around here has been WAY too expensive for a random impulse buy

See that last sentence alone proves you're already in the 'right' direction. I do the same thing! At the end of the day, there's just another tuner there for you to use.

This is all anecdotal but, I've noticed the market become A LOT more accessible since 2012/2013. I like the Rondo music stuff cause it does not cost an arm and a leg. I remember when I was in High School, if you wanted a 6 string bass... $1200 minimum. Now you can get good stuff for $500-$600 and can get my piece of shit 6 string for $200 used. The point being, "I found" there used to only be one thing and it was expensive... so people like me who like hoarding garbage never stood a chance.

A couple years ago there was an 8 String bass on craigslist for less than $400 (I don't remember the exact price... so it could have been less)... why I didn't just pick it up is beyond me. (It was probably one of those weeks I was pretending to be responsible with money. Don't hold it against me.)
