Also she does dinner at the White House and is pretty clearly not advocating the destruction of the government/authority, so CRASS comparisons are a little off, but CRASS should not be a sacred cow either.
I don't know, this is a huge thread to respond to, and it is pretty loaded. I have, at points in my life, been surrounded by queer folks who bend over backwards forgiving the behaviors of Beyoncé, and so I end up talking about her more than I would other shit. But also my tablet autocorrects beyoncé to have that accent on the e, so this is the world I inhabit? Maybe she and her creative team are slipping subversive shit under the radar, I don't think so, and I don't think I am that impressed by recuperation these days.
To be fair I didn't compare her to Crass. I was using them as an example and I should have used some one else.

I know, but it was not just you, it was like 3 pages of this thread, and it is nitpicking really, yes she is able to put a mesage out to a wider audience, but I don't particularly care for messages of reform and recuperation, myself.
And crass ruled, but also did a ton of silly shit and the reunion tour was a busted joke, and I don't think they are worthy of any pedestals either.

Skimmed it. Might read it more in depth...gonna think about stuff...ring mods most likely.
Kinda reminds me of the Clash (and their level of validity).
Or Chumbawamba (though both in different ways).
I'm going to go read about ring modulation, side band modulation, shortwave, and stuff like that.

Sorry man.
I don''t know what's wrong with me. D.o.S. told me to come here (rightly so, I usually love this stuff and Crass). But I kind of find myself indifferent toward this song...
Maybe that is my criticism of the song (without any further support)?
Maybe I am just getting apathetic?
Laziness?
I don't know?
I do feel like people can argue/discuss the validity of artist intent all day and night and it will never be accurate. All any person can do is look at piece within the scope of it's own universe (whether it be inside the work or surrounding the creation of the work) (but that also brings intent into the work...which can be problematic).
Eh, maybe my mind is elsewhere.

Nothing jerkass-ish here, this is all more than worthy of scrutiny. I find it hard to believe that any celebrity of her stature isn't biased or misinformed in certain aspects of their humanitarian actions and they can be doing more harm than good if the audience chooses to ignore a bunch of woeful actions because of a couple of 'inspirational' positives. We should be critical of people and don't have to dismiss them altogether to do so.

Well, the less we know about what's going on inside the deepest reaches of the Beyonce Brand Brain Trust™ the harder and less conclusive it will be. I'm sure there's many facts and figures we'll never find out so it's hard to avoid speculation, maybe in 50 years we'll have the right kind of brain probing technology to make accurate deductions here.
It can be a worthwhile exercise though, at least in discourse/critical thinking.

Don't misunderstand, I love that you come in and go 'nah...ring mods.'
I'm outta here, too. Good stuff, but I feel like this served its purpose. Pushing it again will just end up with arguing over shit no one can prove.
