Yeah, totally torn between these two ideas, neither of which is shit.

One of the best rigs I ever had was a MIG 100 H and a Beta Lead in stereo. But at the same time one Science on its just so much more fuller sounding than most amps.
A red knob Sunn Concert Bass was probably one of the best sounding amps I ever had. it works great for guitar too, just put a fuzz in front of it.

This still doesn't help me reach a decision, dude.

Let me put it this way, I don't have any of the Sovteks or Sunns anymore, then look at the line in my signature.
It really depends on what you wanna do. As great as the Hellhawk sounds on its own, I still run it stereo with my V-4 for guitar. And since I've been using stereo rigs for so long my guitar tone is pretty much based on it now.

Goals. Gotta keep these soft just because they're pretty the same as last year.
1) get to a spot where I play out regularly. No more of this like twice a year with an oddball situation garbage.
2) get a second guitar. Something better for the soft pretties.
3) get a nice amp. Dream is a hellhawk but that's a big dream since I just stepped down at work...

Again, you've already arrived at my final destination.
Basically I don't know whether or not to consolidate to a single rig of awesomeness or have the solid foundation of the Sunn there for when I go stereo. The conundrum also lies in the fact that I'm not sure if I want to try and get back into playing with my friend this year (he covers bass duties) or if our schedules are never gonna line up and I go the Black Eagle in the Field route and just find a drummer and hit it alone....with a drummer alone.
What were your steps in going stereo? Would you do anything differently?

Make sure your cab(s) are wired right and get a good ABY. If your amps are out of phase you're sunk. I had both those problems, my rigs didn't sound as good as they could have and I didn't figure this out until last year.

1. Start playing out semi-regularly again, noise and more musical stuff.
2. Acquire a compact, powerful bass rig that can fit in the back of my small car.
3. Solidify my pedal lineup for bass. Looking like its going to be:
Bass > Korg Pitchblack > Abominable Cenote > Earthbound Pale Mare > Abominable Hail Satan > DOD Meatbox > EQD Afterneath > Amp
...maybe...

A pedal that instantly turns your guitar into plastic?!
Seriously though, set your sights on a Dan Armstrong if you want that tone. It's the guitar that gets those weird buzzsaw tones. Not the Peavey PA and not the Roland pre-amp.
I'm a full time graduate student I don't have money for a guitar like that anymore.

Get a 00s reissue. That wont kill you. The originals kinda suck anyways. The 90s reissues aren't that good either.
You could also try putting a vintage Super Distortion in a symmetrical double cutaway guitar. That would approximate the weird buzzy fatness.

I think I've reached the peak of discovery a couple of years ago, when I was up for whatever and had NO IDEA of how to use most of the stuff. That led to a wealth of discovery about myself, my playing and pedals. Now I've become more of the master of my toan. The pedals on my board all work for me and my playing. And they all add to an overall toan that I think will be recognizably 'me'. However this does not mean I don't gas for some (a lot of) crap.

Still lusting for a spring reverb where I can mess with the springs, a Randy's Revenge, EGC all-aluminium bass VI, Sherman II and an Anti Nautilus of course...
You sound high maintenance. I like it!

my main goal this year gear wise is to find a bass/moog/synth noise amp that's loud enough, but won't have me throwing out my back carrying them up 3 flights of stairs to my attic studio after practices or shows. I am thinking maybe separate 1x15 and 2x10 cabs with a head? The main reason I haven't plunged already is I'd rarely be able to play it in the house.
and then just to work on more stuff... with OTHER people who push me in ways to get me out of my comfort zone

Fix stuff that isn't working, try to assemble a fairly permanent basic rig, stop under-utilizing a lot of the power I have on hand and ignore when chasing new shiny things, and put together songs and covers that I can really have worked inside out instead of just noodling and putzing around.
I think I need to get about there before my aspirational goal of hacking together an ep's worth of music this year is more than a pipe dream.
At the same time, I want to be more disciplined in finishing pending DIY pedal projects--ILFSS is the only urgency I ever feel on that front, and I have quite a backlog of awesomeness to build. Maybe that'll at least slow my gear collecting to the point that I can integrate the new more fully if that's the only way I get new stuff.

Goals.
1. Fucking play. More. Often. As much as logistically possible. Take advantage of Mrs Doommeow’s new work travel schedule, use time apart for sonic whorship.
2. Finish baritele.
3. Get a fully working, fully functional decent bass. PBass, ash preferred. Start mining the interwebs for an old matte finish SX model.
4. Get the board to a place where I’m happy if not thrilled and am not going to make any changes for 3-6 months. Remember to leave room for CT5, whatever the new MTL jank is, 4046-M. Ditto X2 or 720.
4b. Figure out how to best use my (custom!) Broadcast (thanks satan!!!). Decide how/if the 8step fits into the mix.
4b1. Figure out and properly thank my SS.
5. Come to terms with the broken dichotomies of my interests, instinctive playing styles, and sonic yearnings. Make shit come together or learn to be happy maximizing what happens naturally. Improve and improv from there.
5b. Doubledown on my iOS ramblings. Get setup to integrate audiobus into my hardware setup and vice versa.
6. Edit and post my notes and clips from the AARP tourbox that I should’ve done two months ago.
