What with the discussion of how terrible Marlon Brando was on set of a very famous shitty movie, THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU, I watched LOST SOULS: THE DOOMED JOURNEY OF RICHARD STANLEY'S ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU. The documentary wasn't shitty...but the horror stories of making that shitty movie are the stuff nightmares are made of. I learned Marco Hofschneider is cool dude. I love Fairuza Balk so seeing her being interviewed and candid was awesome.

This article provides greater context into just how terrible having Marlon Brando on your set is https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/s ... -dr-moreau. The highlight of it is:

“Brando was only answering the door when the pizza man came. This was the best news that the pizza-makers of Cairns, this small town, had ever had because Brando was consuming industrial quantities of pizza while ruminating on what the hell he was going to do when he had to face the cameras. I think there might have been an existential terror there.”

I used to like Ichi the Killer, but I don't know if I would if I watched it now.

Have you seen Robo Geisha and/or Dead Sushi? Dat shit is art of the highest order.

Dude, that poor man. That producer that did BAD LIEUTENANT was probably right. If they made the film for 8 million it would have gone significantly better.

It amazes me anybody used Brando after APOCALYPSE NOW! Especially when you have/had actors like Judd Hirsch or Harry Dean Stanton that were equally talented, consistently worked and were easy to work with.

the way I interpreted it..brando knew what was up, so he toyed about, funny how mini me was derived/inspired outa that mess, & val kilmer was being The big dick setting poor richard off...a small independent thrown into the big pit of deadlines...just like with everything, Richard gets himself into the story, magik veils lifted, doubletakes, shadow of secrecy and wonder, he said she said, piece it together for yourself...he now lives in monsegur france and idk what to think of him anymore.....a colour out of space'' was supposed to be his new film 5 yrs ago or somthing..its always some kinda legal copyright ownership whatnot keeping his movies back.

I know Brando was fucking around but...I don't understand why anyone would put up with that...not even on a professional level but monetary...at that time he was not 'that big' of a box office draw. Brando has a very special place in my heart because my best friend and I constantly do Brando voices and come up with absurd situations later day Brando would have found himself in. The whole thing with the pizza is truly something we would have made up so I am glad to see it is real.

Yes, the irony stings it is so strong regarding Richard becoming an animal on the island. I giggle thinking about it.

This movie isn't shitty but is anyone into Eric Rohmer? I could see most people thinking his films are boring (see Gene Hackman's character in NIGHT MOVES) but...I like them.

This movie had so many cards stacked in its favor before I even saw it (Promising director, cool premise, and featuring not one, but two of my favorite working actors). It fell so flat. Really glad I didn't see it in theaters like I wanted to. No charm, no personality and narratively retarded (and not in the good way). In short, this could have been condensed to a music video (or just watch the trailer, no need to sit through the whole thing).

The keeper of the shit flame seems to be a channel called "El Ray" thats usually hidden way up near the porno channels on your sat dish guide. I think it was started by Robert Rodriguez. Lots of great turds on that channel. Lots of pretty good kung fu too.

I just saw Boyfriends & Girlfriends which is set in the sister city of the town I grew up in. I liked it. Plastic and sincere, like myself.

Watched 50 shades of grey with the wife last night. Or tried to watch - not sure if we made it a full hour, and more or less right away we were looking at each other with that "it can't really be this bad, right?" look. Wow, maybe the worst thing I've seen since, I dunno? The Travolta scientology movie? That was bad - this was outright offensive.

Made what I'd watched the night before - Purge, Election Day - look like Schindler's List.

I refuse to be subjected to 50 shades of anything. It's pretty disgusting that it has become as popular as it has. I watched the 9th gate last night.. it was pretty dece.

9th Gate is a fun bad movie. I think he's a deplorable piece of shit but Roman Polanski has directed some of my all time favorite films.
