D.o.S. kinda nailed it

But I offer the following video for your enjoyment/consideration:

yeah you're not gonna get anywhere near that with the volca beats. they're awesome for the money but super super limited sequencer and tonal options. not to mention it's MONO and you can't pan anything which makes it almost useless if you're going for lush production.
16 steps really isn't enough for most applications either, i had a lot of fun recording passes of each drum sound and mangling them in ableton into more complex beats so maybe try that? twist the sounds around with effects and pan them all over the place. it's a good compromise between the limitations of a hardware machine and dullness of doing everything on a computer, from there you could load beats into a sampler like an SP404SX or something for live application.
machinedrum is super awesome and has a way better sequencer and has sampling functionality if you go the UW model but it's expensive enough that i'd say try your hand on the computer first.
ableton is cool though, you can make drum sounds out of anything and load them into a bank and use a midi pad controller to tap out beats then go back and quantize and extrapolate them to taste. there are a million programs for that but i always found ableton sufficient.

gear-related thought of the day: i really want a stereo MASF Possessed. does anyone know if it would be possible to rehouse two in the same enclosure and have a toggle allowing the second possessed circuit to be controlled by the knobs of the first circuit with it's own knobs disabled (ie somewhat synchronized, i realize the circuits would glitch differently regardless but i think it'd be useful still)?
would be an expensive endeavor but it's by far my favourite pedal for synth and beat mangling ever and it feels like a waste having to use them in mono with it.
i might try and source a second one soon just to see if the results are good without needing to rehouse.

Guess I'll be getting Ableton tonight. Works out for me anyway because I've been meaning to fuck with Vocaloid 3 for ages.

I know absolute dick about building pedals, but I'll take pictures of mine when I get off work and post them here. That'll probably help you out.

Ableton is a great program, for sure.

oh I have one already so don't worry about it, I was just wondering if it'd be doable if i was to buy a second. i'm 99% sure you wouldn't be able to get a stereo signal to pass through one, you would need two separate sets of pedal guts. the idea is more to have the left and right channels from e.g. machinedrum running into possessed circuits with the controls sync'd so that they'd have the same blend/output/buffer size happening. as far as listening to something like that in stereo i don't think having the pedals set different would sound very good as opposed to them exhibiting the same characteristics but with random rhythmic variations between both channels.

That's theoretically possible, but it would be enormously impractical without implementing some sort digital control. You'd have to replace one set of pots with dual gang ones to prevent the two circuits from interacting with each other when in dual control mode and switching to dual mode would also require multiple switches or the addition of some switching circuitry.
EDIT:
actually, "enormously" is a bit of an overstatement. You actually could get some cool stuff going by having them share specific knobs. The enclosure would probably still be xbox huge though.
EDIT EDIT:
I managed to find a 6pdt switch that I didn't think existed, so the single switch for dual and single control mode is possible.

hmm that's fair enough, thanks. i'd thought something like that would be a problem but am not really knowledgeable in that area. there's also the possibility that slight variations in the circuitry would make synchronized control a little bit off too, right? i'll keep an eye out for a second one and just try adjusting it by ear i think.
like it's possible to do this stuff on the computer but there's something about that circuit i really dig. i should mess around with Max/MSP patches more though.

I don't think that you would actually have too much trouble with them synchronizing. If it works the way I think it's working (pots just act as a voltage divider that provides a voltage the digital brain reads) then there shouldn't be much between the pots and the digital brain and the synch errors could be as small as the variance between the two halves of the dual gang pots.

Sounds like a great idea.
I have stopped chasing the Possessed when I got the Pitchfactor.

I always wanted to try a pitchfactor and never really got around to it. I should look into that soon because the stereo functionality would be really useful.
Possessed is just a flat out inspirational pedal. One of the few pieces of gear i feel gives me ideas i would never have come up with otherwise without ever sounding too gimmicky.

hmmmm..
this would be great if i had enough money / knew someone local enough that knew exactly what they were doing.
even better would be like housing them in a rack unit with internal isolated power and CV control over each parameter.

Another question, has anyone ever used a Perfect Square Hyperslicer? Seems like you can make some really fucky shit with this

those apparently had a really noticeable volume drop and the company isn't around anymore so it never got revised. prymaxe has had them in their 30% off clearance section for a year or two now.
if you want like momentary hard chop trem i would suggest the tremolessence, the hold mode is awesome and it's really tweakable. also the dwarfcraft memento might be worth a look too for more odd time stuff.

Ah well shit. I've been looking to get a high-end tremolo for a while now but have been holding back the trigger on just buying a Goatkeeper for a little bit now. I'll take a look at those two though unless I can convince myself just to go for the holy grail.
