"also ran": From racing (particularly horse racing, in my experience), referring to one that didn't win (in this context, a pedal that didn't make it onto the main board). As in:
Pleasant Mother Pheasant Plucker won, Man From Nantucket came in second. Testicle Shelf also ran.

I am constantly trying to explain ILF to my wife
I get questions like "WHy are you laughing at your computer?"
or "What do you mean you talked to some guy in australia?"
It's kinda cool to be part of a community like this
but very hard to explain to outsiders
