If Mike Matthews really is doing all the directing in terms of what to make, it seems like they need to just give him a sketch pad while they hire a new ideation department. EHX now making almost straight up clones, after all of the progress they made with their stompboxes. I just never thought I would see the day

I first got into SY from those albums. I have all on vinyl. I saw several shows supporting them back in the day. However, I have actually only listened to their discography through Goo and kinda of moved on from there. If I were to choose my favorite album up through Goo it would be Daydream Nation. Though their earlier albums are definately raw, I think they capture the essence of SY.

Full disclosure: I thought Rather Ripped and Sonic Nurse are GREAT.

^AGREED.

Rather Ripped is their best album since Dirty.

I love their whole catalog until Sonic Nurse.
But I have a soft spot for the trilogy of Washing Machine, A Thousand Leaves and NYC Ghosts & Flowers.
To me thats where the balance between songform and open structure/noise is at its most interesting.
They were still pushing themselves (unlike later years) and hit a peak there in my opinion.
