I have an old RAT that I would play bass through and pretend to be Blacky back 25 years ago, and it always sounded pretty close even though he didn't use any pedals, just a couple of old 70s Marshall heads. So I based the Blower Box around the LM308 and the early 80s RAT gain structure, but tuned it to try and get that distinct snappy tone he had. And I went with a baxandall style tone stack so that you could boost the lows and highs as needed to hopefully maintain the same feel even on a less than stellar amp/bass setup and combat the low end drop that most distortion pedals have.
I use mine more as an overdrive though. Blower on low/mid-ish gain into my Acoustic 320/Sunn 2x15 is ridiculously bad ass! Definitely gets me at least one "what the fuck is that thing?!" every show

Awesome! Thanks for the response, Matt! I hadn't even thought about giving away trade secrets, so thanks for answering so openly. I have to say, it's a BEAST of a pedal, and I was definitely getting a Rat-ish vibe from it, though my Rat (which I loved) never had such clarity and low end BALLS. The Blower Box is definitely going on my live bass board, and it's gonna get a lot of snarly/growly use. It's probably going to be at medium-high gain for me, with my EQD Talons handling low-gain grit, and my Blackout Musket handling the Muff-end of things.
