This thread would be so much cooler if it was in General Discussion instead of Gear.

Given how the thread has gone so far that would make more sense...
Sooo to get more on topic (or we could just move the thread, or both)
What gear is everyone using for doom toanz? Right now I'm loving a jag/jazz bass tuned to drop C->Fuck->Musket or a meathead->Ashdown Little Bastard through a 4x10. Sounds great to me despite not being super-high wattage like all the amps people generally recommend for doom.

You don't NEED super big amps, most of my stuff is: Bass > sovtek muff > computer, plus I've been using acoustic instruments more and more

Doom is in the heart and soul

Probably not, but I'm gonna find out soon enough anyway. I wanna make a stupid little gimmicky bow to use on the fretless section of my bassvi.
The majority of double bass strings made these days have a metal outer wrap. I would suggest using bass rosin if you are playing bass strings because bass rosin is sticky not powery like what they use on smaller more minuscule instruments.

I boost the DLS with each of the fuzz pedals for a different textured brand of sludge/doom. My boomstick is an Epiphone LPC tuned to drop A
I bet the FuckMusket sounds amazing.

Back when I was doomserious it was a Russian Big Muff and a Reverberator (and, variously, a whammy or a flanger or whatever I could borrow/was laying around to make misc. wooosh/woobble/whatthefuck sounds) into a Peavey 2x15 and a MIG100. C standard tuning with my Jack Casady. Loud, gnarly, and relatively bulletproof ( I think I blew a fuse on the 'tek once), which was a plus for the shows, 'cause when you're stoned as shit you need stuff to work--no way you're going to figure out what's going wrong when you're that toasted...
Nowadays, I've slid the Mig and the Peavey over to periodic guitar duty for some infrequent cosmic jamming while I use "only" an OR120 and an OBC115 for bass, (Singing Tree > Supercollider.) Still got the Casady. Still got the doom toanz at the ready.

i may as well post here. i've been lurking here forever, started an account 9 months ago, made my first post yesterday. but some folks know me from the stupid harmony central forum. fuck that forum anyway, even without the technical difficulties. seems like i went to work today and this thread just happened really fast. glad to see it, and hello folks.
also, the "joe preston has a hand truck" avatar is one of my favorite things i've seen on the internet.
