Maybe try tightening your jacks and switch

So all 16 prongs need to be touching the PCB? Maybe it just wasn't engaging the effect since it isn't soldered in? I just didn't want to have to solder 16 prongs and then have to unsolder.

The ic has 16 legs, you need a 16 leg socket. Yes all 16 need to be touching the pcb. I wouldn't try using effects that don't have all their parts in place, as this could cause even more trouble. After the socket is soldered in, you can remove/replace the ic as needed. Sockets are useful because you don't have to solder the IC (which could harm it), you can rotate the IC if you put it in backwards, or you can try other IC's for various tonal changes, etc.

doesn't matter too much, anything around 1k-10k will be fine
Cheers!

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the input. I contacted Dwarfcraft and they are going to send out a new socket. The Radio Shack close to my house sucks and they rarely have anything that I need.

Unfortuately Radio Shack is not the DIY haven it was some years ago. Decent selection of cell phones though

...to be fair, they make more money selling electronics rather than parts of electronics.

I built mine today after sitting on it for months. I thought I took a pad off but I don't think I did because sound comes out when activated. I only get response out of volume and gain though. I started to look at other builds and I can't see what I did wrong. I do see that long lead that needs to be trimmed. My only guess now is the micro chip mine seems to be shorter.

Hey dude, I sent you a message! I think you got the wrong chip. I sent out a batch with the wrong chip in them a few months ago. I will send you a new chip today!

I also swapped one of the connecting wires to a pot because it was to short. I am pretty convinced it is a bad wiring job on my part but I don't really know how to isolate exactly where the problem is. It sonds like something isn't grounded right to me because when I touch the components and the side of the enclosure the crazy unwanted stuff goes away. But I don't know anything about how pedals work so I could be way off base.

I know it's a couple months too late but I think the ground wire (black) is going to the wrong lug on your 9v plug.
Try switching it to the lug that is not currently being used.

looks right to me....the remaining lug is for a battery snap

Just finished this guy and took it to practice to test.
Some amazingly messed up sounds lurking in this guy - way nastier than I ever imagined!
by far the loudest pedal I have heard, a true destroyer!!
One question - should the volume control have a smooth swell from 0 to 10?
mine starts really loud a hint off 0, has a louder hump at 2 o'clock, and then kinda crushes itself a bit quieter further up to 10.
Do they all do this or have done goofed?

Dunno. I'm WAY too scared to turn mine up that loud! hahahaha. It's a super loud box though for sure!
