I've been wondering for the past couple days why they always make a big deal out of it since it's an annual occurrence. Invest in revamping the infrastructure and it shouldn't be a problem if people just stay inside. Shit, in the Caribbean people's houses are built on stilts and they don't really bother until it gets up to a 3.

But I finally figured it out today: people are dumb as fuck.

went out today to sell my violin in order to raise some money. i'd been led to believe that it was worth a decent price, but it turns out that the flood of Chinese instruments into the US market has cut the value of a early 20th-century student violin to $200 or less. i was fortunate to get $100 for it, and am quite heartbroken because it was a really nice instrument (if a bit bedraggled) and i really needed a decent price. i'd always meant to learn to play it, but my neck and shoulder problems made it impossible...another dream/avocation of thirty years' standing gone. and all the money i got from it will have to get spent tomorrow on prescription crazy-person medication, so i still have no weed and am even more bummed than before. one step forward, two steps back.

Sometimes I get really irritated at how exclusive Milwaukee's DIY music scene is. If you put an open posting looking for a band on FB and somebody both comments and messages you personally, you could at least acknowledge their messages and say that you've found somebody else.

Still haven't heard back about that Saturday show, which I now see is 21+ (once again only an issue for the bassist).

My dad is working out of the house right now so I can't crank my amp with new tubes for the first time since I bought it used a year ago.

And I need to watch/write a paper about The Family Stone. No, not one of my favorite bands ever, the stupid Christmas comedy/drama starring queen horseface.

we've run into this in the past, where upfront, the booker(venue) made a seemingly big deal about it, but when the show came, they never even checked anybody in any of the bands.
we just never said anything, as I think one of the kids in another band was not 21 yet.

I talked to a guy who runs sound at a different venue. It's rarely officially enforced. He said the law is super vague so most venues just don't want to take a chance on having minors around when they're serving booze in the slight odds the cops should show up.

However, it is a show at noon, and there is the bizarre loophole that if one of the bassist's parents are there its just fine (she can even drink).

Wisconsin is weird, man.

Then again, I still haven't heard back from the person booking the show (trying not to attribute that to them being an exclusivist d-bag). I'll have to bug them pretty soon because it kind of makes a big difference if we're practicing tonight or not.

So my amp isn't working now. The switch has been fucked for a while and I think the issue is there. I'm not getting any power, so it's either that or the totally janky plug.

Also, and I've known for a while, I need to sell like half my pedals and shit so I can pay for tuition and two tickets (one parking, one illegal left turn). So if anybody wants an old school The Rat, RRR, Velcroar, Pulsar, old-school MXR 10-band EQ (the blue kind), or a DE7 hit me up. I'm too lazy to make up a thread in B/S/T at the moment.
