Even tho I grew up in a family that considers baseball, and the SF Giants, a religion (my grandfather played semi-pro ball here and was heavily recruited by a number of teams), I too don't find a lot of sympathy for most pro athletes these days. i know. it's a conundrum. i believe capitalism works, i'm just disgusted with some of the more decadent excesses that we get into. and it offends me, perhaps irrationally, to hear somebody bitch about ONLY getting a minimum of $2 million a year or a salary cap that limits them to $15 a year or whatever ridiculousness they're railing against.

they should be glad there is a system in place that pays them so damn much for such an esoteric skill.

Their main argument is that without us (the players) there is no product, meaning no revenue. Which is true to a point, but really, of those 455, how many are good enough that you buy a ticket for em? There's not a lot and they all make more than 10m+ a year regardless of a CBA. The rest are essentially paid to be male cheerleaders; they high five the star players and jump up and down after a nice dunk.

In the players' defense, unions are retarded everywhere. At my previous job I've dealt with a number of union reps. None were remotely reasonable, yelled a whole bunch and would disappear completely once you presented a counter argument based on facts. 'There's an economic crisis, taxes are up, INCREASE OUR SALARIES!!!' 'There's economic prosperity, you're finally turning a profit, INCREASE OUR SALARIES!!!'
