Dirt for Acoustic Guitars
I just bought a Godin Multiac Encore and I've found that I can't really reel in the fuzz that I love using my electric to anything less than the sound of an amplified apocalypse.
Amp gain sounds great, but I'm looking for something more tweakable. Does any one have any suggestions?
In terms of dirt I currently use a Guyatone Fuzz Monster Clone, A marsh chapel and an Algal bloom. My amp is a Verellen modded Jca20.

Man if the Algal is too much then maybe something like a Frazz with the clean blend would work... I've used a lot of dirt with acoustic and never really have a problem as long as the gain is low... Suneater and Mini work well too...

What kind of pickup are you using? I'd imagine piezo? If that's the case, one of those soundhole plugs will really alleviate a lot of problems. If you're using something like a soundhole pickup though, I think you're just gonna be in feedback hell with a lot of the fuzz/od options out there. Am I wrong in guessing that'd be way too much work for a notch filter?

Ah, Godin, so that'd definitely be piezo. And hmmm... no soundhole on that one? So using gainy stuff is just uncontrollable?

I use a Dean Markley pup that slides in the hole and I get good results even with 5 DS-1s...

Worth noting: all the fuzz on Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is created by pushing the EQ levels, not by actually using a fuzz. It was all acoustic into soundboard. Also worth noting, are Multiacs hollow? I remember that the dude from The Living End filled his Gretsch with foam to stop it from feeding back.

Yeah, I've always been a fan of the dirty acoustic sound. From Keith Richards to Sparkehorse and MBV. The pushed EQ thing sounds about right to me. I think Keef used to just drive the tape super hard with his acoustics by playing really hard and close into the mic.

I always heard that he recorded his acoustics onto a basic portable tape recorder and then dumped those recordings into the mix. Always wanted to try it!WeHuntKings wrote:I think Keef used to just drive the tape super hard with his acoustics by playing really hard and close into the mic.
Funny this one hasn't been mentioned yet:

Kinda lame recording but you can see the soundhole plug, so FWIW that setup's working for Kim. My brain always goes straight to this song when I think of overdriven acoustic.
Side note: I've had that same basic-ass model Seagull since high school and fucking love it.
