I'd go with a delay with a tone control of some type, and multiple flavors on tap (Timebender, DD20, etc) - I love a Space Echo before an amp, but it's a one-trick pony and I have no idea how a Mataamp likes to be hit. Chances are crisper digital with some high end will end up sounding better than you think, given the end filter result.

Thats what I was thinking. The RE-20's overall tone is fine, I have no issues with a one trick pont cause i kinda want an always on type delay so it would give songs some continuity. The matamp seems to like to be hit hard and with a clean full range signal, it doesn't like dirt pedals anywhere near as much as a clean boost. I agree though that a crisp digital signal with good high end content is most likely what is gonna please my fickle ears though.

If it likes to be hit hard, then it may well like a Space Echo (assuming the RE-20 has anything like the boost in an actual box) - the originals go to mother of obscene (+30ish db on tap if you want to go stupid) but I suspect the little digital monster won't have two gain stages (or cut options).

The RE-20 I got to play with for a bit compared favorably with a real one - 98% there or better, except for the stuff you can *only* do with a mechanical device (set erase head at less than optimal settings, bias fun, etc).

Verbs on the real ones are fairly weak as well, which I thought the modern emulation captured fairly faithfully (and why I didn't care about getting a 150 vs a 201 when I was in the market again a few years back).

I'd say the RE-20 would be perfect. Check out Zoroaster if you haven't already, as they make the psych doomz with that pedal into raging orange stacks and it sounds amazing

I'm very familiar with them, even got a few pics of them playing on my old drum kit from a couple shows we played with them while we were on a nationwide tour.

He does use that pedal really well though now that you bring it up!

My favorite pre gain reverb that I have used was a Dr.S RRR. It sounded great at all settings.

Thanks guys!!! I'm leaning towards the RE-20 as it has both delay and verb, but it also has the built in boost (which might eliminate the one I currently use) and it has tap tempo. If I'm able to snag one I will definitely post up a demo vid of what I'm using it for.
