in a semi-related confession, I stopped bothering to get a pick before I picked up a guitar about 3 or 4 years ago, to the point where I never use one. Once in a while I'll come across an old one and try to use it, but it never works right. The confession aspect is that I still can't fingerpick beyond thumb+finger

Re: The Confessions Thread
Sometimes I only get drunk so I can feel worthy of posting in the drunk thread. Diabetes is catching up with me as is liver damage.
YOLO.
It only is terrible because I fall asleep or am escorted to bed before I post.

Re: The Confessions Thread
SHIT GODDAMN 2X COMBO
I sold a guitar tthat has been with me all around the US. A MIM 40th anniv strat, black with maple fretboard, glued in black Schaller straplocks. Damage around the 16th fret.
I have never played a sttrat that spoke to me like that one. I bought it on consignment for $70. SOld it to a guitar center. It was sold, traded back in, sold, traded back in, then re-bought by me....I sold it thinking I'd reconnect with it like last time. NOPE. I even wrote down the serial number, but cant find it.

The other day I saw a girl loading lumber into the back of a truck while wearing a sundress and blue Chuck Taylors.

I've tried to learn fingerpicking so many times, like the proper way, PIMA and all that. But incorporating the ring finger always trips me up.
I'm fine with just being a strummer anyways, so I don't know where these occasional flights of fingerpicking ambition come from.

PIMA is a waste of time to me. I learned finger picking from necessity. Plop your hand in one spot, don't move it, move finger when needing to hit other strings. slide that F chord up and down the neck and dedicate one finger per string arpeggiating it. Just get LAZY. Maybe learning "Horizons" by Steve Hackett. Simple song, nice flow. See how lazily you can play it with your picking arm. Just wiggle them fingers like you're typing.

Re: The Confessions Thread
Dirty Projectors got me into finger picking, super fun stuff! I've found myself doing it a lot because I wanted to be able to play even if I didn't have a pick around. I like it because it's easier for me to strum widely spaced notes over skipping strings while still retaining a good balance of velocity between the notes.

You don't have to feel sorry. You can like/dislike whatever you'd like/dislike.
