Seen some truly excellent avant garde drumming, and some of the aimless-kindergartener-throwing-a-fit variety. I thought the dude in the vid played sorta interesting though, and that weird shit he does could fit in the long stretches without drums on some of my tracks. But it might be my drummer-gas blinding me.
I'll be perfectly honest; I didn't watch the whole video. I did skip around to several parts and didn't see anything compelling, but mostly because of my aforementioned inundation with the style.
Why don't you download some of his audio and then record your stuff to it? Then if it works, you could send him (or any drummer) that and say hey, wanna do this?

I can't speak for Norway but in the northeast USA (and probably the northwest too) these fucking dinks are everywhere. Find any coffee shop on a friday night and take your pick. It was original ONCE. Now it's more hacky and predictable than a screamo combover hairdo band. Trust me they all look the same and use the same "unorthodox, avant-garde" non-drumming techniques.
it's the faux intensity that is so comical. it's like the musical equivalent of watching someone with mental health issues playing with their own shit. morbidly fascinating for about half a minute, though hardly art.

'kinda cool'? you're a strange one, eivind.
what is the attraction to you? you're home team so i won't tease you over your reply. i just think a lot of people here are not seeing what you see, which makes me want to see what you see even more.
Eivind August wrote:Contacted the guy, he said he would listen to my stuff and get back to me. That was like two weeks ago. So yeah, maybe he sucks after all.
re the contact, maybe don't give up hope too soon. going by his dynamic performance in the clip he's probably had his mouse poised over your bandcamp/soundcloud page since last tuesday waiting for inspiration to strike.

I'm gonna do some shows where I assemble my drum kit laboriously and with great concentration, and then take them apart again without playing a note. I may cover myself with contact mics. I will definitely smell like shit and will try to sell you a tape.

Fine, now I'm not gonna post my compositions for microtonal snare drum.

Well, to be completely honest, I don't "get" what he's doing. To me it seems to be planned though, and have some sort of purpose for his composition. So in that way it's interesting, to me anyway. When I'm interested in having him as a drummer, it's because he seems to think outside of the box. It's not like I would want him to do this over my tracks, I love me some actual grooves and my work have loads of "straight" parts. It's more because of the extended noise improvisations within my tracks, where I'm sort of afraid that a regular rock drummer would go "wtf is this shit?". I don't want to be a nazi band leader, but I don't want my music to change into something I don't intend it to be either. So having someone that "gets it" (like UC

In other news, I was contacted by another drummer who thought my music was cool, so hopefully the situation will resolve itself.

Tabby: I can't speak on behalf of Eivind, but for me it's all about my love for observation, tension and of course randomness. They all just fell into place in that performance. As a glitch-musician, I bet Eivind liked it for some similar reason. It's not really that hard to understand, IMO. It's a very modernistic artform (an attempt to portrail the psyche in a given moment, which will appear as random without further examination. I mean, you guys just skipped through it. Try skipping through an Eliot poem and then tell me what you make of it, haha) and you guys have just been its very post-modernistic (read; ironic) critics who considered it passé. It's what happens in the transition between any artistic age, or even when crossing genres or form. You're not in the wrong at all. Actually, you're keeping up with the collective consciousness, while we're stuck in the previous age.
edit: guess EA was a little faster to reply than me. He's not as artsy as me.
Thanks for the sweet comment, duder!

That walnut jazz bass was by far the sexiest of them all. Mmph.
Im trying to slim down but I just want more stuff.... Rusty Box/Boxidizer, Henrietta Purple Octave thingy, Fat Sandwich...
Does anyone know of any other sweet bass preamps/di combos that have sweet low gain dirty tones? Verellen is too spendy.
