I agree that having a pedals that are really good at one thing and simple are the way to go for most things, but I really think having a pedal or two that has a bunch of features on your board is really beneficial to help you smell boners from miles away.
I really felt that way about my Timeline and BigSky for a while and was thinking about downgrading but it turns out I really can use a lot of the sounds I never thought I would, just gotta put the time in and find them and tweak them to my liking. That time ends up being really fun for me.
Stutter delays, pseudo rainbow machine sounds, pseudo trems (i love feeding a 100% wet reverb signal into the square wave trem delay), weirdo random filters, bit crushing, vibrato, looping. I really like all of those sounds, but I don't use them enough to justify having a pedal dedicated to solely those effects. Meanwhile, I use fuzz, reverb and delay like all the time so I'll stack up on those.
My exception is the El Cap. I've found some really great sounds in there and managed to incorporate a couple into songs lately.
I was mainly talking about the Descent. As awesome as the octaves and reverse and 3 presets are, I really only need a pretty standard verb. I'm leaning towards a RRR or Ghost Echo.
I'm constantly tempted by the H9 and the Warped Vinyl. And I just really checked out the Möbius and JEEZ.
