Orchestras tune to suit their home hall/theatre/conservatorium.
And because there are no fretted instruments they don't have any intonation problems.
As cool as it would be to resonate in harmony with Titan or Io or whichever celestial body you wanna pick, I think we should just be content with resonating loudly through amps and jamming all kinds of pedals inbetween.
Is this not the simple answer?!

Every orchestra I've ever seen down here at campus has the soloist tune with a fancy Peterson strobe tuner backstage and the rest tune to themIommic Pope wrote:Orchestras tune to suit their home hall/theatre/conservatorium.

If you do it properly it's not a placebo effect, it actually sounds different. You can see the JI thread for some examples.

I buy that it sounds different I don't buy that it aligns my chakras and inherently sounds better than 440

Re: 432Hz... Let's Get It On...
Sounds and feels better to me too, but convenience wise (other musicians, jamming with playbacks) I use 440.
I'd like to use 432 when recording, for sure.
I know the concert pitch is higher so the sound reflects better through the room, and also cuz the instruments detune (a bit, but they notice it) through time, and they wanna keep their tonal edge. Some tune to 442, some to 444. Depends on the orchestra.
re:no-sense to detune on normal guitar: Umm, makes no sense, since it's a really minorminor detune, you'll feel it barely in string tension, it might require a bit higher gauge strings and a setup if you're sensitive to that sort of thing, but that's it.
re:conspiracy/mumbojumbo: well the way I view it, reality is a set of intermingling frequencies, and if you detune just one of them a bit, you get a big shift cuz of interference (of a sort) with the other parts of the spectrum. so it might just be that the 432 fits better with the rest of the spectrum and it makes your body feel better cuz the most natural domain of the body is *dramatic suspense* nature. (in the sense of no-manmade /vibr/radi/ation; cuz atm I view our tech as superprimitive in terms of noise and vibration pollution; ye sure we can adapt, but if we can do better, lets do better)
Also, I've heard that a lot of native American flutes and old instruments over the world are 'coincidentally' tuned to 432, go figure. Would like to hear some further info/confirmations/debunks on this if anyone has them.
re:tuners: A lot of tuners today offer 432, I actually didn't expect it to catch on but it did and I'm happy as a little girl getting a pony
I've got a clip on tuner I found randomly one day outside, and it tunes to 432

Re: 432Hz... Let's Get It On...
I'd have to agree. If there's an argument in any of this about resonant frequencies and brain wave states I might hear it, but I don't think it could make anymore of a difference then just "feeling better" to listen to.GardenoftheDead wrote:I buy that it sounds different I don't buy that it aligns my chakras and inherently sounds better than 440
So somewhat of an aural placebo.
Not an oral placebo, though.

Blast white noise at your body and see what frequency your body resonates at. While wearing electrodes on your head to see what frequency your brain resonates at. WATCH OUT FOR POSITIVE FEEDBACK.

Yeah man it's all Goebbels fault, it was a nazi ploy to fuck with our bodies so that we would slowly die off and the ubermensch would rise like phoenixez
