I recently got a tuner. Being out of tune finally just annoyed me. Its been really nice. One of those polytune nor deals.

My only criticism is that it would have been better to put the signal chain in the descriptions of the imgur photos. I didn't even look at signal chains cause I didn't want to cycle through 3 tabs (pics,voting poll,chains)

Pretty much this. If I couldn't tell the chain from the photo I just assumed it started at od/dist/fuzz and ended with reverb or delay

I was going to do that, but some people had such long signal chains.
I felt that having tons of text after each picture would be even more overwhelming for folks scrolling through.
I figured most people only look at signal chains for reference, so having a streamlined album of only images seemed the best way to make voting easier.

This is how I did it. I liked having the chain separate.

Maybe there is a more ideal site to host this on for the next year? For me the ideal would be something like this:

A picture gallery where you can vote directly for the picture, that will let you cast a limited amount of votes (and makes you go back if you voted for too many, ideally only showing you the ones you had selected) and that will display the signal chain on request (or as a mouse-over). For a fairgasm it could also mix up the order of the pictures, but that would have the disadvantage of making it much harder to discuss the boards.

Sort of a like/dislike system, actually similar to what it was this year if people hadn't obeyed the only vote for 3. At the end the board with the most likes/thumbs up wins. It also gives a more accurate representation of how people feel in general about certain boards. "oh i got no votes, i must be everyones fourth choice eh eh?" ha.

That sounds really cool, actually!
It would rely less on the honor system, that's for sure.

My only concern is this:
By limiting the number of boards you're allowed to vote for, it makes your choices matter more.
What allowing unlimited votes means is that any given vote is devalued, in a sense.
People will be more likely to vote for a board than to not vote for one, because there's no reason to be stingy with votes.
That could make the competition a bit 'cloudy', where a leader/favorite is less clear.

For instance, I know I probably would've voted for just about every single board that was posted.
I could see myself having a good time with all of them, and I appreciate the time and effort each person put into their board.

I think that, ultimately, allowing unlimited votes would make the 'top' places less distinct, but would be a better representation of the placing of the rest of the contestants.
That may or may not be a good thing.
Also that's almost strictly conjecture on my part, it's highly possible that it wouldn't obscure the placing at all.

That could be a cool thing to implement next year/next time there's a competition on here.

ya definitely there are pros and cons to every system. and tbh i thought this year was a step up so great job really!

The reason i think it may not cloud things is that, in reality there is a reason to not vote for every board. Simply put, if you vote for every board, your vote is basically worthless because everyones board has received the same number of thumbs up, so the standings don't change at all. Now if you can really make sure each person only can vote once, someone deciding that man im only voting for this one sick board cause its so sick, im fucking puking, then actually thats quite valuable, since that user has only upped 1 single board, and everyone else lost the vote.

Someone voting for half the boards is basically saying, most of these deserve a crack at the title, but im not sure which one really.

Maybe it doesn't make sense in the end, but you are likely correct that the victory might not look as decisive when you tally the votes (only speculation though)

I just thought of it because I too found the number of images to scroll through quite tiring and by the 4th or 5th board i had forgotten what i even looked at. So i was imagining more like a board just shows up on the screen and you say yes or no, next board, yes or no, next board, etc.

For the final i think 1 vote or a fixed number of votes is still the best way though.

Well, last year there was talk of a mid-year RILF with full rigs. Maybe you want to tackle that for this year.
Or maybe some battle of the clips?

I don't want to act like I have any sort of decisive power in these matters, but I'm sure people would be cool with going for another game/competition in a couple of months. Maybe talk to a mod or Tom before you rush into organizing something, but yeah, I don't see why that would be a problem.

We should have a voting test bilf. Take one of Joseph's categories, take a limited number of voters, the get them to vote according to different systems to test the outcomes. The boards are already there and uploaded, there's probably enough dudes who've already voted who'd be intersted in voting again. Maybe?
