Hi all, first time posting here and I have to say that EQD make some of the best sounding pedals I've ever heard. I've got a Dispatch Master on the way and possibly an Afterneath here soon.
Anyways, I'm currently on the hunt for an overdrive that will give me something similar to what a lot of early 90's post-hardcore guitarists were sounding like. Something abrasive yet not terribly shrill, like Nation of Ulysses, Hoover, or early Fugazi. I think I've narrowed it down to the White Light and Talons, but 99% of the demos on youtube are guys playing blues leads so I was curious if any of you might be able to help.

I've no experience with the white light but I had the talons for awhile and I'll say this about it
It's awesome
If you really dig the character of your amp, it will only enhance it(EQ is active so you can either cut or boost the frequencies)
Even with the gain cranked it has a great grind to it while your notes are still articulating.
Great with stacking as well

I have the White Light and really like how it plays with my Vox. Pretty abrasive with the gain turned up. I feel that it's a bit on the trebly side but it could just be my ears. I like run it on the uncompressed signal ( you can choose +/-).

I am lucky enough to have both these pedals. And fret not, they are both awesome & I would be happy to recommend either. But here are my thoughts:
White Light – This has a real old school feel to the technology. Is sounds like there is one lonesome transistor (or whatever) effecting the sound. It can be clean and very brittle or you can get some pretty fuzzy sounds when cranked up. But it always has a lovely glassy skankiness to the sound. But a classy glassy skankiness!
The compression switch is useful too. This pedal really excels at low to medium gain settings where you can really dig in to get awesome dynamics.
Talons – The sound is much more conventional than the White Light. The gain is more rounded and golden. Really it just sounds like a quality cranked amp. I use it to effectively give my one channel Fender amp a gain channel ie more gain but similar basic sound / feel. With the pedal on I still sound like I’m playing through a Fender amp.
The dynamics are always very good, and the EQ’s are very handy for little tweaks. The pedal excels at classic rock sounds. Tasteful & classy & usable.
In summary: If I could only have one I’d toss a coin!
