That feel when you realize there was a spelling mistake in an email you sent to the client.

My invitation is to anyone on here! Almost positive my roommate is going to move out and marry his girlfriend within a year and I will be living alone. So seriously if people ever need a place to live in Minneapolis, just let me know.KaosCill8r wrote:Was that offer for me or dubkitty? I think I opened a can of worms with comments on another tread. All this talk about self censorship is just bullshit to be honest. To save future offence on this issue I will probably just be lurking around here from now on.

Hey hey, it wasn't all that bad! You made a valid point, met some good counter arguements, and admitted that they made a good point. In my mind, this is how good dialogues go.KaosCill8r wrote:I think I opened a can of worms with comments on another tread. All this talk about self censorship is just bullshit to be honest. OT: Was woken up at around 7 am by a call from work. They wanted me to do a review of an album in just a couple of hours. Strict deadline. As always I said ok, since this is my only source of income at the moment, but it's far from my preferred way of working. But then I started listening to the album, and it's really good. Great, even. I wish I had more time with it, but still, turned out to be a nice little writing session. The album is "Solar plexus" by Thea Hjelmeland, btw. It's on Spotify, and you guys should definitely give it a listen.

Nah, don't worry about it. I've been through a number of little debates and things on here, and people always keep it mature. I agree with the point you made, but it's hard for straight white males to argue that point against most people who aren't straight white males, because we straight white males don't get discriminated against on an almost daily basis. Nor do we have to see others like us getting treated poorly in the media or out in the world just for being who we are. I know that not all straight white males perpetrate this discrimination, but the point is that we don't get discriminated against. I think there's a noticeable difference between self-censorship and knowing when to exercise tact. -two cents-KaosCill8r wrote:I think I opened a can of worms with comments on another tread. I've been on a kick of getting into debates over any sort of controversial topic lately..... and I looked at my FB feed this morning, only to find that a pro-organic organization shared a link from some metaphysical and "spiritscience" website......

Yeah I've never really seen any sort of dispute carry over outside of the thread it is in. You'll be quite alright, keep posting!KaosCill8r wrote:I think I opened a can of worms with comments on another tread. All this talk about self censorship is just bullshit to be honest. Re: The spite, hate, rage, apathy and mild irritation thread
It just shitted me that I was only putting forward ideas that tried to keep everyone happy, and I was made to feel like a cunt because of it. At the end of the day they were just ideas and suggestions. Wasn't trying to be a dick. I grew up in a religious household that the idea of freedom and artistic expression was frowned upon. Being the artistic type it was hell growing up there. Rebelling against it and religion as a whole cost me the relationship with my family. I only see them on special occasions like birthdays. Never religious holidays. And I have to be really stoned to tolerate them. But our relationship has not been comfortable since the mid 80s. If it ever was comfortable. As a result it has made me protective of freedom especially free speech. I feel I earned it. I'm just sick and tired of the minority dictating the rules for the majority. Which seems to happen a lot lately. I have one more thing to say FUCK CENSORSHIP!!!

Boredom has become a serious problem for me. And it isn't from not doing a lot. I do more than just about anyone I know. It just isn't enough though.

Kaos, that sucks man.
Don't stress about that other thread, I came off as a way bigger dick than you (one of my many talents). I just outlined my position there and I probably look like an either bigger tool now, but my basic position is we shouldn't be censoring each other, but we should hear all the voices out, especially of there are some calling "not cool".
I don't think people were having a go at you, I just think this is a turning point for an online community that actually has a sense of community and is now trying to redefine itself. It comes with the territory of uncertain times and protecting a thing people feel passionate about.
Plus I think everyone feels like they have enough freedom of speech to confront each other about this stuff. Not a bad thing.

Yeah no one is talking censorship. With the right to free speech comes the right for others to freely voice any disagreements they have with what you are saying. I don't think either anyone really looked like a dick though
