Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I need opinions here. Looking at trading a jazz bass for this 78' Ibanez Destroyer. (Gibson Explorer copy, hockey stick headstock and all. Just wish it was black.) It's had some mods done, but seems ok. He sent me a sound clip and it's in the range of what I'm looking for. What do y'all think.
I'm having trouble paying an image of it.
More info about the mods and what not

Oh and Ben, thanks for that awesome review. Really appreciate it. \m/

What's the skinny on your Jazz bass? Year, mods, and so forth.
edit: I will say that one of my old guitarists has/had a lawsuit Ibanez strat that is absolutely amazing.

American 62' re-issue Fender Jazz Bass, manufactured in US in 2000 (neck pocket stamped Jan 1st 2000). Pickups all original, new CTS pot's & cap, original bridge, gold anodized aluminum pick-guard. The neck is a 2010 Allparts. Licensed Fender, maple board, black blocks and binding, zero fret wear, straight as an arrow. Vintage "Hip-Shot" reverse tuners (pre drop D). Graph tech nut. Fender waterslide decal. Recently strung with round-wounds (used flat's exclusively previous to recent restring), harmonics are dead on. Has two repairs on lower back portion of body about an inch apart where it was chipped and filled. Comes in a hardshell tweed case. I am the second owner.D.o.S. wrote:What's the skinny on your Jazz bass? Year, mods, and so forth.
My issue is I'm a precision guy and I just can't dig the tone. It's so much thinner sounding. Aesthetically though, it's perfect.

That would seem to be a pretty good trade value wise, and if you're really not stoked on the way the Jazzy sounds then I'd say go for it.

He's down with a straight trade. Yeah, I think his value is more in the area I'm at. I like the idea of that pickup configuration. P closer to the bridge and then humbucker further up.

That is the result of the Emperor lawsuit. This is the original owner / builder's new business. They're classy but pricey.pelliott wrote:Does anyone have the skinny on Dictator Cabinets? They're made in Chicago, are they the phoenix from Emperor's ashes? More handsome work.

I wasn't aware there was a lawsuit involved. Did one of the owners leave and sue the other to prevent them from using the name?Ancient Astronaught wrote: That is the result of the Emperor lawsuit. This is the original owner / builder's new business. They're classy but pricey.

IIRC that's pretty much what happened. There was a falling out and the guy who controlled the name got out of the cab game.

Kind of sucks to prevent the person who wants to stay in business from continuing on, but I don't know the particulars of what went on there.

These dictator things look a little too much like vintage radios for my liking.
Totally respect the woodworking but not my thang

Definitely an un-PC name but some unique looking cabs. With that price point though I guess they're trying to tap the ever-elusive doom lawyer (or doom corporate CEO) market.Ancient Astronaught wrote:That is the result of the Emperor lawsuit. Those were the first 3 songs they played at neurosis. That's the best stuff I've heard from them yet.emptyparadigm wrote:DUDES. New In the Company of Serpents. HEAVY. HEAVY. HEAVY. http://www.cvltnation.com/cvlt-nation-s ... -serpents/
