It's a truly eerie feeling, it's like walking around in this weird stale time warp. The only other time I've felt it so strongly in Australia is while I was camping on Morton Island. We stumbled across this resort (where they filmed one of the scooby doo movies) and the same creepy stale feeling was really overbearing and everyone felt it and we just left really quickly and went back to our camp site.
Man, I haven't been over to Moreton since I was a kid.
A friend of mine was an extra in one of those Scooby films. She said Sarah Michelle Gellar was a bitch.
My old man had a boat when we were kids, I remember one day he took us out for a day on the bay and we visited St. Helena Island (the remnants of a 19th century prison), did the whole historic tour. Anyway, he anchored the boat in a few feet of water off a beach there when we arrived and didn't know how far the tide receded when it went out. The boat was high and dry and there must have been at least 20 meters between it and the water. Couldn't be pushed. So we had to camp out there and wait for the tide to come back in with no food, and when night fell it got freezing and creepy (to a 10 year old). I don't think we were able to get back into the boat until at least 10 at night.
Gold Coast has always sucked....these days they just tear down the old sucky parts and put up soul-numbing, characterless new buildings.
You wanna see disappointment, go to Byron Bay.
What a shit hole.
Bernard's law, tuffy.
