Yessir. Those lil Dr. Scholls things make a huge difference with hard soles shoes.
I'm in between sizes, so I buy the bigger option just to have room for insoles.
I try them super fancy superfeet, but them shits is expensive.

Yeah, the bestest are the the Redwing bake to fit ones, those really help if you have severe foot pain. Really though getting shoes/boots that don't hurt you feet in the first place help… but as I have found out standing on concrete floors in steal-toe boots for years fucks your feet up and they make very few boots for doing so anymore.

especially for athletic shoes
to me you find a comfortable shoe and that's that

also: as far as hoop shoes and stuff, the people who designed them intended for the support structure and cushioning to function at a specific height, any change in that height and you change the rollover point of the shoe and risk messing up an ankle (that is not science it is weird sneaker voodoo)
