Thanks bros!

Ok, so I'll push the rad drummer angle in the add. What else? Is the freedom to go nuts on the effects front a plus? I mean, in the world outside of ilf :)

I figure if I can write a cool enough add we're more likely to get someone we want rather than The generic metal head bassist who's actually a shredder guitarist but no one wants his shredding.

I don't know -- I think that you'll get different kinds of responses based on what you put in the add. The kind of person who is joining the band to play parts that other people wrote is going to be different than the person who's expecting artistic control on their part, and how much artistic control do you really have when you're the new guy in a band you just joined?

Good point man, I hadn't even thought of that.

Fuck, sometimes I really hate the running a band part of having a band. I just want to have a stable lineup, write some proggy metal fun and thrash it out on stage. And not do any non-musical work towards achieving that goal. I think it's a decent plan...

Definitely put in the add what you want. There are many different types of bassists.....the "I want to be in a band but don't really want to put a lot of effort in" guys who love being buried in the mix and the "why do we need two guitars....I got this" people.....putting in the add what you want will weed down needless auditions. Just like a job add putting in qualifications. Oooooph. Yeah. I wish people here were doing what you do. It seems like bands always have a "revolving door" slot. Ours was the rhythm guitar player. Our original guy did a lot of trippy pedal stuff. It was almost like it was me on bass, one guitar player, and then just another guy doing atmosphere soundscapes. Once he moved away we couldn't find another guitar player that did stuff like that. We just kept that position in flux.

as a bassist what I want…
never to be told I am too loud or that my sound needs treble
a drummer that DOES NOT FUCK AROUND ALL THE FUCKING TIME AND FUCK UP THE GROOVE AND TEMPO OF THE MOTHERFUCKING SONG
guitarist see above
a guitarist that owns an amp big enough to not EVER need to go through the PA unless everyone needs to go through the PA
that's it really, other things like drunks and stoners and talking between EVERY FUCKING SONG  and tuning between EVERY FUCKING SONG :flame: wouldn't matter what I played

Played a gig last weekend where they had a house sound guy, and it was the coolest sound guy I've ever worked with. As I'm setting up he comes and asks me if my amp has a direct out. I ready myself for the normal shit and politely tell him no, my amp is all-tube and is non-master-volume and would he mind mic'ing my cab instead, and explain that I have a bass mic if he doesn't. Much to my surprise he's totally cool with it and even asked me what kind of tone I go for. I giddily tell him that I run my amp pretty hot and distorted and have a shitload of effects. He just coolly says "No problem, just click each of your pedals on for a few secs so I can make sure there's no volume spikes." Boom, soundcheck done in like 5 minutes. A fucking breeze. Why can't all sound guys be like that?
