I just get so tired of mundane gameplay and piss farting around with waves upon waves. I'm a sucker for story and atmosphere in games, I just want good pacing.

I agree, mostly. I say "mostly" only because I play at least on "normal."
As much as I love the Elder Scrolls games (for their atmosphere, etc), I hate that there's not much actual skill involved in the gameplay. Overcoming difficulty seems be done only with wars of attrition where you have to use everything at your disposal and in your inventory, or by grueling leveling-up which gets boring as fuck and makes me feel like I'm wasting my life away. Kingdoms of Amalur was fun as hell, but every time I try to restart it I get bored because there's really not much replay value, and setting the difficulty higher is pointless because all that happens is the enemies get way more life.
Dishonored had a great balance of atmosphere and gameplay, and I'm still playing the shit out of Dark Souls 2, which imo has the same. I really want to try DS1, though when I tried the "prepare to die" edition a while back, I couldn't even get past the tutorial boss
Funnily enough, I only play Stealth games like Dishonored, Splinter Cell, Deux Ex on the hardest difficulty to start with. Mostly because I always play Ghost and extra difficulty just makes that harder. I think Stealth and Dark Souls are their own difficulty level.
It's just that nothing draws me out of a game faster than head shotting a regular enemy 5 times before it dies.

Yeah that's some bullshit. Fallout obviously doesn't do that (I think?) but you can totally shoot an arrow into a guy's face in Skyrim and he'll just get pissed off.
The Bethesda fallout games totally do the bullet sponge thing. Not neeaarly as much as the elder scrolls but it still happens and even once really takes me out of a game.
Well, started Mass Effect 2 again. Imma gonna wait until Destiny gets it's shit together......if it ever does.........otherwise, it's BL:TPS on the 14th.

I've been so tempted to do another Mass Effect run, replayed a little bit of the first again.
EDIT: I'm in such a Witcher mood, cannot wait for Witcher 3. So excited, love it.

Xbox live gold had dishonored as a freebie the other week, so I nabbed it. Started playing it yesterday. Was about to abandon it due to tedium, but the magic thing makes me want to stick it out. Can't help but think there if were a few more functional things and bits about gameplay that were a bit more like fallout, this could be awesome.
WWPD?

If you want to play stealthy in Dishonored, it's really tedious. But if you play like rambo, it's fun as shit, especially once you start accumulating more powers.
